Umm, this isn't just a DVD player, It.s an amplifyer too. Just leave the speaker cables alone, plug in the new dvd player into the "video2" jack, yellow cable onlt. Then, plug the audio cables into the video2 jacs (the red and white ones). Select "video2" on the SonyDAVS300 and "video2" on the tv. Insert the dvd into the new player and enjoy. It's screwy but it works through the amp and sends the picture to the tv.

Hi,I can play a DVD disc on the system and get sound from the surround sound speakers but I can't get a picture on the tv,Sony Trinitron. The connetions are from the DAV S500:(DVD only)red and white cable...

Hi,
First try with yellow video output of DAV-S500 in yellow video TV input to get its picture. (yellow output means composite video out)
Green-Blue-Red video output is component output that will be turn on when you switch the unit into Progressive picture mode, that option would be available in Menu of DAV-S500
Hope this info will help you.
Thanks.

Introduction

The DVD Upgrade is an advanced modification to your DVD player, which adds extra features and enables you to get more from your machine. The upgrade supplements the DVD player and in no way harms the playback quality or removes any performance features of the machine.

Players Supported

The following DVD players are supported by this version of the DVD Upgrade:

 Sony DAV-C700
 Sony DAV-S400
 Sony DAV-S500
 Sony DAV-S800
 Sony CMT-S9D

Macrovision & CGMS disable

All DVD players have a system called Macrovision built in to the player, which is designed to stop the copying of DVD discs to video. However, this system can have adverse affects on some projectors. For this reason the DVD MOD Upgrade disables Macrovision to solve any problems.

I want to connect an external DVD player (Samsung DVD-1080P9) to my Sony DAV-S500 system

yes u can connect an externel dvd player to your sony dav s 500...

you have

composite video input X 1 and

How do I connect a new dvd player to Sony DAVS500?

If DAV-S500 have Input then hook new dvd player there and you can listen surround sound too.

Sony DAV S500

The protect indication is because of a fault detected in the amplifier section. If this appeared occasionally before and cleared itself, it suggests bad connections. If you know how to solder, open up the unit and resolder any connections that appear grainy or have rings. That may solve the problem.

Movie freezes, skips.

Does sound like the laser. Realitically, not worth repairing. I'd say you'd be worth connecting a cheap DVD player to the system - then the Sony can carry on providing the surround sound audio and the new DVD player can provide the video. Then, if the cheap DVD player is still going, it can move to a bedroom TV if and when you replace the surround system....

Otherwise, I would imaging the speaker set (and even the non-working DVD player) on its own might fetch a reasonable price on an auction site - anyone who has a stolen DVD unit will probably be desparate for the speakers as Sony don't sell them separately!

NO DISC ERROR

Sounds like a dirty or failed laser or DVD mechanism /drive.

Try a DVD/CD lens cleaner (must say both). If you can, try wet & dry version with alcohol based cleaner - Alsop are a good brand.

If this doesn't work, the drive has likely failed. Its unlikely to be economical to repair - but you could always connect a cheap DVD player to the Sony system - the sony system can then continue to provide surround sound audio, whilst the cheap DVD player plays the discs!

Otherwise - sell the system as separate parts (speakers, remote, cables, DVD player) as someone is bound to be desparate for the speaker set on its own to complete a system and will often pay more!

Is Sony DAV-S500 optical input compatible with optical output from Pioneer DVD player DV-566K?

I don't think this has an Optical but a Coaxial connection. You might try a coaxial audio cable not optical.

DVD skips or freezes when playing and not related to a scratched or dirty DVD

I think that this is the laser unit as I have three of these units and I have swapped everything but the laser unit.
