89 gmc jimmy with digital gauges, only speedometer works. no other gauges even come on

When you start the truck, the speedo does its thing and then gives a reading of 00. the speddo works perfectly, but the rest of the gauges dont even light up or anything. the tachometer, does constantly display the yellow and red over rev warning lights. but nothing else works in the dash.

It looks to me you need a new or remanufactured cluster but ... find a wiring diagram for that cluster and with a test light checks the + wires(sometimes there is more than one +) and the ground on the wiring diagram. You will need to remove the cluster itself for the backprobe wire's test at the cluster terminals.

SOURCE: dash lights go out-

It could be a faulty dimmer switch. If the switch is fine then it might be a loose connection behind the gauge cluster. If you haven't pulled the the cluster off before. The plug is stationary and when you pull the cluster away it unplugs automatically. ButI would check the dimmer first.

SOURCE: have a 2001 gmc jimmy...drove home gas gauge read

chevy and gmc trucks have an on going problem with this, turn the key on,and get a rubber mallot or a hammer and hit the bottom of the fuel tank a couple of times, this will unstick something in the fuel pump/sending unit.

SOURCE: gmc jimmy 1999, fuel gauge reading empty, even

the sending unit inside the tank has a open circuit that will not complete the signal to the dash gage. The tank will have to be dropped to replace this. The fuel pump is also a part of the sending unit. The part is not very cheap neither

1988 gmc jimmy speedometer is off 10-15mph with 33s about to put 35s on it how do i get the speedometer to tell me the correct speed

You need to replace the speedo gear on your transmission or differential with the correct gear ratio to compensate for the size of tires your running. Maybe call a 4x4 store or truck accessories store for parts.

1987 Volkswagen Golf - speedometer problem

Well I would verify the trany speed gear is "ate up" first, theres only one 10mm bolt that holds it in place, sure the area around the speedo cable is very CLEAN before removing it any dirt in there would make things bad to say the least. If you pull the cable out the gear is attached to the cable if it looks good then put it back together and remove your cluster (speedo and other gauges inside) I suggest you pick up a repair manual at a big auto store on MK1-MK2 vdubs (82-92) to explain how to remove speedo cable from back of cluster its kinda of tricky getting your fingers back there and pressing it together to get it to release. Once out drive the car and see if that cable is turning from the inside if it is then its your speedo gauge that is faulty. Grab a cluster from a scrap yard, if that cable is NOT turning then the gearing inside the trany is messed up which would mean taking the trany apart to repair it. If that was the case you would be cheaper to replace the whole trany with a used one. Good luck
