You probably need to enable the port. Right click on a blank area of the desktop and choose Properties. Click on the Settings tab and click the Advanced button. There should be a tab for your display adapter or it may be under the monitor tab (varies by manufacturer). Look in these areas for setting up your TV and enabling the S-Video port.
It sounded like a hardware/firmware problem. Have you tried to have a BIOS upgrade for you computer? Just go to HP's website and find the drivers download page for this computer and download+install the latest BIOS. Feel free to visit digitalsupporttech for getting help.
try checking if there are plastic locks that prevents from opening the case of your laptop. It may somehow be located on the side or the bottom of the laptop.
Attention: Dont force it to open it may break the lock..
Before you invest any further, try the lcd inverter http://www.laptoprepair101.com/laptop/2007/01/31/replace-screen-inverter-fix-backlight/ I have seen them for real cheap. If you take off your bezel cover underneath the display you'll find the inverter or if necessary you can get a tech to help install. Usually theres a series of beeps when you get a blank screen. Hp pavilion laptops also get hot on the keyboard after a while from long term use and zd 8000 came out about 4 years ago so the display should be a pretty good looking glossy screen. Those are nice laptops to work with by the way.
Hi,
a power surge could have caused this problem, as you so rightly assumed. motherboards-cpus et,c. are prone to fail or malfunction. even with static electricity.
it could also be a sign that, the tft ( screen ) has faults or the cfl (tube) or inverter have suffered damage.
