You have burned out the drill motor, it is shorted, the battery smoked due to a direct short, one thing I don't understand why the thermal limiter didn't trip in battery pack, I would contact manufacturer and try to get hem to buy you a new drill.

you have to activate the batteries by putting them in to the charger for a minute first, they are in an inactive state when first bought

try shifting the high/low switch to make sure fully engaged. Also make sure that all the other positions are correct and if so then you have a clutch problem. Some of the 'good' hardware stores sell small brushes for hand tools. Look around and you can custom fit the brush if it's not exactly right size with light sand paper
