    where is the answer?

  • ljcorby Jun 22, 2017

I too have the same issue, but there seems to be a metal piece that I can't find anywhere that holds this plastic piece onto the piston type thing that rotates and pulls the piston out when pushing the cold button. I can't find this piece anywhere inside the unit. Thoughts?

Actually, it looks like the clear plastic rectangular piece (mine is just shy of 2" long) is held on by two tiny plastic prongs, both of which were broken off of mine. The prongs fit on either side of the white round piston thing (photos below, you can see the notches on the nipple where the clear plastic thing fits on). When the water button is pushed it hits the top of the clear plastic part and pushes it so that the bottom of it pulls out the nipple of the white round piston thing and dispenses the water.

I have called Whirlpool and they do not make any parts for this cooler and say it is not repairable. Their advice is to throw it away and buy another one, despite the fact that it is a five cent part that needs replacement. So, I ended up attaching a couple of tiny screws (#4 with a random small nut used as a spacer) on each side of the plastic part to approximate the prongs. To do this I drilled a hole on each side of the plastic part just large enough to allow the screws to be screwed in securely to the plastic. Then I screwed them in only partially. Because in order to get it on you pretty much have to position it correctly on the nipple and *then* screw the screws the rest of the way in. This requires a small offset screwdriver.

A couple of notes: Before doing anything else, unplug the machine! The back grill doesn't come completely off as far as I can tell, so once you remove the screws gently move it over to the side. It's a very tight space inside, it helps to have small hands. Only the cold is accessible, the hot is behind the tank so I'm not sure it's possible to get to that side (but you can kind of see it, if it's your cold button that's broken have someone push in the hot button while you look from the back so you can see how it's supposed to work when the button is pushed).

Photos: clear plastic part after the tiny prongs have been glued back on (so you can see how the original part looked. I removed the glued on prongs to drill the holes and replaced them with #4 screws), and the white piston showing notches in the nipple where the clear plastic part attaches.

How exactly did you get there? I mean, how do you open the water cooler?

First, check its button properly. Second, check the circuit board properly.

SOURCE: Fridge Leaking water from front right hand corner

Most likely you're correct, the defrost cycle produces water that is supposed to be captured in a holding tray, pan, etc. If the pan is cracked it would leak out or if the drip tube (pipe) is not in place it would miss the pan. It may be easier to remove the contents of the small frige and tip it over some to see what you can down there. I assume this small unit doesn't have any water souce to it (no ice maker or water). Check the tubing for damage and see if you can find the holding pan to inspect for crackes, etc.

SOURCE: sunbeam water cooler model # YLR2-5-25H2

I called a bunch of different numbers and finally found the people who can help with this. It's called Elite Group (877-383-6399) - I guess they're the ones licensing the Sunbeam name and making these water coolers. If you call that number with the model number, they'll replace the "top" part of the cooler, which should also have new taps, the lady said. The cost is $13.35

I have a obsolete but modern-ish Whirlpool water cooler. The white plastic ring the 5 gallon water bottle sits on is cracked, and chunks are coming off. Whirlpool doesn't stock parts for old model

The collar is only there to keep the bottle at the correct height in relation to the water in the cooler. The principle is that when the vacuum inside the bottle is not being release by the water clearing the opening no more water will run out. To understand what I mean fill up a bottle ( any old bottle) right to the top. Fill up the sink and with you finger over the top of the bottle place the bottle upside down in the water. Take you finger from the hole and it will glug once maybe twice then no more water will run out until you lift the bottle out of the sink water. To stop more running out simply put the neck of the bottle bac in the sink. It is the same with you water cooler bottle. So all you need to do now is to to cover the foam with a piece of vinyle and it will be fixed.

Temperature on a whirlpool D10 watercooler

Lisa coolers similar to yours=> Whirlpool Dual-Temp Top-Loading Water Cooler
It appears that customers gave a not so good review yet being inexpensive this is common when most products are imported from China. The WHKM-D10 that you have now is now called the WHKM-10DP Whirlpool Dual-Temp Top-Loading Water Cooler with Heated Water. Wish I had better news, but please keep me in mind for any other Whirlpool, Maytag, Kitchenaid, Jenn-Air, Amana,or GE Home Appliances, Thanks, John Tripp/AKA Sea Breeze

I just want to know how to hook up the water lines for the water and the ice.

there should be a small 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch clear plastic hose coming from the back of the unit, in the house there should be a small water valve similar to the one that turns on your toilet, just hook the two together (may require hose clamps and tools depending on the setup) simple as that

Disconnecting the waterline

Hi, If you remove the grille below the doors, you can see a plastic water line passing through the lower hinge. Follow the line back about 6 inches and there should be a quick disconnect. It may be a screw type or the kind that you push down a small ring to get it to release

Once pulled out on the top you will see a metal strip
Connect jump leads/booster + to this, connect - earth to door latch on inner door jam
Now press button to release boot/hood.
