Sony Viao laptop - LCD issue

Hi, laptop was dropped onto carpeting. Now, on startup, "SONY" rasters for a few seconds and then the screen goes totally dark, but laptop continues to boot. Works fine on external monitor via VGA port. Screen does NOT appear to be cracked. Connections are fine. Inverter or backlight issue?

SOURCE: laptop screen in complete darkness but external monitor works fine

I have a problem with my hp laptop monitor's hinges, could you link where you were able to purchase those hinges?

Also, make sure you monitor's ribbon cable isn't missing any wires or that all of those wires are fully contacting.

Most likely the backlight has failed however replacing the backlight is impractical and the screen should be replaced.

SOURCE: lcd screen black on laptop. External monitor works.

Defective CCFL backlight may has the following symptom:

  • Screen flashs on red/pink and off.
  • Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal.
  • Picture flickering with dim display.
  • Picture flickering on and off.
All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp)
has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

Have you updated the video driver?

If yes but problem persist I suspected it's your LCD screen is faulty and needs to be replace.

If your machine is under warrantly no need to pay any fee for the replacement of the part.

I have a sony viao all in one desktop model num pcg-252l i replaced the screen and i trun it on and it lights up but it stays all white

A white screen meant the LCD controller was not working - what you saw was the backlight without polarization in front of it. If the cpu fan isn't spinning, that means the system board doesn't detect the right startup conditions. You probably connected the inverter improperly and it may be preventing booting, or you may have damaged a component with static.

My laptop ( sony viao laptop) fell and now once turned on I have a black screen all lights and sounds are good. Could this be a led disconnect problem or a video card situation. What type of video card...

Unlikely to be a vga cable loose, but you can check by removing the switch panel cover and the screen to check it is still firmly housed.

test the laptop first in an external monitor, if you get an image, then the graphics chip is still ok

This then points to the screen, may appear undamaged, closer inspection with a torch, shone through the back of it will show any cracks you do not see straight away.

If the screen will not light up, fault is probably with a damaged backlight or inverter, you are then looking at a new (or 2nd hand) screen

Hello, I have a Sony Viao VGNCS215J that is a year...

Sony has identified a limited number of VGN-CS series computers which may display a horizontal line on the LCD screen.

I need to know the pixels for a sony viao vgn-430d screen

You should be able to find the proper LCD screen, by the LCD screen size, whether it is a widescreen or not, and whether or not it's a matte finish.
I need the exact model number. The Vaio VGN-430d does me no good. Suggest you look on the bottom of the laptop. There may, or may not be a Service Tag.
Look for something like VGN-NR , and a number.
What you may see on the side of the LCD screen, or on the body of the laptop, is just part of the VGN series.

Won't Start Up

See if you can go into Safe Mode by hitting F8 during startup. If so then try "Last Known Configuration" choice on the Safe Mode Menu. If that doesn't work then let me know, have a few more things to try..

Problems with My Monitor Screen.

Hi,
Sony vaios are very tempramental.
Did you drop or bang the machine, before this happened ?
There are a few suggestions.
1:) the screen catch mechanism is jammed.
Solution:- turn on laptop, using a small blunt screwdriver. where the laptop latch, goes into the laptop base. gently push the latch mechanism a few times, to see if it,s jamming.
2:) if the screen display shut off mechanism is under the actual laptop screen lid, push the small plunger, up down several times.
These are common likely causes.
3:) press and hold the power on button for 15-30 seconds, this is in case the system has gone into hibernate/sleep mode.
4:) ensure The battery is fully charged. And the laptop power supply is plugged in.
If none of the above work for you, you may need to take into a repair specialist.
