First time ever muted speaker symbol appears in upper right hand side of screen. Usually just says mute lower left. After an hour on phone with AT&T they say its a TV issue.
I turned just the fios box off and back on after 10 seconds. The volume on the right side bar was no longer stuck on mute and I could control the volume from my remote control again. Both of my remotes actually, fios and the tv's remote without reprogramming anything.
Lucky me!
The fault is with its main board itself. It will be best to get this set repaired by skilled technicians. This is not a user repairable one.

It is possible that the audio processor is locked up do to a small power surge and if you unplug the TV from the wall for 40 MIN., the audio should go back to normal.

Sound work just find when playing a DVD. No sounds when switch back to TV.
Found the source of the problem. Nothing to do with AT&T after all. Under Options and speakers the setting had been changed from TV speakers to Audio System. Swtiched back to TV speakers and problem solved. No need to replace TV.
FYI, I had the same problem Feb 2016 and unplugged everything (TV, Cable box, surround sound, entertainment system) and waited 2 minutes, the volume went from zero to 24 then disappeared, now I have sound .
