Chewing/eating non food items could be a condition called "pica". There are various potential causes but the main seems to be anxiety. See about getting some prozac from ur vet
Did wonders for our dog. Ate beds, toys, rocks, shoes, etc. After prozac for 3 days would only chew toys specific for him.

It depends on the size of the dog...
Every time your dog chews something in front of you, then muzzle him for about half an hour! The dog will soon get the message. Dogs are not keen on muzzles, so give it a try!
Believe it or not, there
are beds designed specifically for your problem. There are several beds designed with chew-resistant
material. I will post some links here
with a variety of products available. http://www.theuncommondog.com/Categories/Dog-Beds-by-Feature/Chew-Resistant-Dog-Beds.aspx
Meaty Bone dog treats
are a great alternative for rawhide.
These products clean your dogs teeth without the risks of rawhide
treats.
I will attach a site with a wide variety to choose from;
although I suggest you also shop around yourself.

It depends on your dog I have an 8 year old bulldog(it's not a puppy thing) that destroyed every chew proof & indestructible bed.....he just didn't want to be alone a little spiteful.
