Lines across scanned images

I have a blue, pink and yellow line running through images that are scanned with both the copier and scanner functions.  I have cleaned the glass and don't see any objects or scratches on the surface.  The lines first began with blue and pink, and have progressively worsened.  There are now 2 blue lines, 1 pink and 1 yellow line that always appear on the same place on the images.  These lines appear when I lay images on the glass as well as when I send them through the automatic feeder.  Any help is appreciated.

If you run the document through the automatic feeder or lay an 8.5x11 on the glass, the lines run from the top of the page to the bottom and the appear about 3/4ths the way over on the right. If I scan a 5x7, then the lines don't cross the image, but appear to the right of the scan. So, it seems the lines are in the same place each time. Thanks!

Yes. The lines appear on the printed copies as well as images scanned into the computer.

  • davissl2 Dec 09, 2008

Not that I can see - I cleaned that surface as well as the glass.

Hi,

I believe that you are trying to scan via HP solution center.
Did u tried scanning from Scanners and Cameras in control panel, and did u notice any lines?

If u get the same lines, we have to remove the USB Composite device and imaging device drivers.

1.Right click on MY computer ->Properties->Hardware->Device manager.

2.You will get Device manager window popping out.

3.Check for Imaging Devices, click on + sign, then u will see "hp photosmart c3100" right click on it and click Uninstall. Then, Scroll down to "Universal Serial BUS controllers".Click on the (+) sign.

4.Check for the "USB Composite Device" and right click on it, click Uninstall.(IMPORTANT NOTE:wE HAVE TO UNINSTALL THE PRINTER'S USB COMPOSITE DEVICE, TO KNOW WHETHER IS THE PRINTER'S USB COMPOSITE DEVICE, RIGHT CLICK ON USB COMPOSITE DEVICE AND PROPERTIES,look for wat location says, Eg -LOCATION : HO DESKJET F300)

5.Disconnect the USB and reboot the PC.

6.Connect the USB after reboot, you will get popup "Found new hardware".Then the Drivers will be installed Automatically.

7.Try scanning. Please let me know after following the steps!

SOURCE: Vertical lines when scanning using automatic document feeder...Glass is clean

It is not in the glass. More than likely it is in the rollers of the ADF feeder. If you open the cover of the ADF feeder you can see there are 3 screws (! is found under another small cover furthest to the back of the machine. Once these three screws are removed you can left the entire ADF feeder from the unit. You will then be able to clean all the rollers. Do not use alcohol as this will dry our your rollers and cause them to eventually crack. Just use soap and water to clean the rollers. Then reinstall the ADF feeder assembly back on the machine.

SOURCE: white lines across my scanned images

Step one: Reset the All-in-One

  1. Disconnect the USB cable from the product.
  2. Without turning the product off, unplug the power cord from the outlet.
  3. Wait 60 seconds, and then connect the power cord directly to a wall outlet. NOTE: Do not use any power strips, surge protectors, or extension cords. Power strips and surge protectors can limit the power supplied to the product, which can result in performance drawbacks.
  4. If the product does not turn on automatically, press the Power button (c00636182.gif ) to turn on the product.
  5. Reconnect the USB cable to the product, and then try scanning the original again. NOTE: To save ink, scan the original to a file on the computer instead of printing the scanned image.
  • If the scanner bulb does not light when the product scans the original, continue to 'Step five: Service the product.'
  • If these steps resolved the issue , there is no need to continue troubleshooting.
  • If the issue persists , continue to the next step.
Step two: Clean the glass and scanner backing
  1. Press the Power button (c00636182.gif ) to turn off the product.
  2. Disconnect the USB cable from the product.
  3. Unplug the power cord form the wall outlet, and then disconnect the power cord from the back of the product.
  4. Raise the scanner lid.
  5. Clean the glass by using a soft, lint-free cloth, moistened with a mild glass cleaner or water. CAUTION: Do not use cleaners that contain abrasives, acetone, benzene, or carbon tetrachloride, which can damage the scanner glass. Do not spray the glass cleaner directly on the glass.
  6. Dry the glass with a dry, soft, lint-free cloth.
  7. Gently wipe the lid backing with a soft cloth or sponge, moistened with mild soap and warm water. Do not scrub the lid backing. CAUTION: Do not use paper-based wipes because they might scratch the backing.
  8. When the scanner backing is completely clean, dry it with a dry, soft, lint-free cloth.
  9. Reconnect the USB cable to the product.
  10. Reconnect the power cord to the back of the product, and then plug the power cord into the wall outlet.
  11. Press the Power button (c00636182.gif ) to turn on the product.
  12. Try scanning the original again. NOTE: To save ink, scan the original to a file on the computer instead of printing the scanned image.
  • If these steps resolved the issue , there is no need to continue troubleshooting.
  • If the issue persists , continue to the next step.
Step three: Try a blank copy
  1. Load letter or A4 size, unused, plain white paper into the paper tray.
  2. Make sure that there is no paper or other document on the scanner glass.
  3. Follow one of these instructions to make a blank copy.
    • Press Start Copy Black on the product control panel to make a black-and-white copy.
    • Press Start Copy Color on the product control panel to make a color copy.
  4. If the blank copy does not contain vertical streaks, lines, or bands, try scanning

My scanner copies have a vertical yellow streak covering half the page. What can I do to solve the problem ?

Lines or Banding Within the Image

If the scanner is generating lines or banding within the image during preview and/or scan, below is a list of possible solutions.

Horizontal Lines: If the lines run horizontally throughout the image, it is almost definitely interference of some kind. First thing to try is reverse the cable (Astra series only, except for 2400S), trying with and without termination as well. It could also be the SCSI card itself that is causing the interference. Try reseating it in a different slot, away from other cards. Try moving the scanner itself to another location, farther away from computer components such as monitors and CPUs. If none of that works, search for the file ?prescan.dib? on the hard disk and delete it, then try the scan again. If that still doesn?t work, follow the clean uninstall and safe mode install of our software. If these troubleshooting steps do not work, it could be a physical defect within the cable that?s generating extra interference, and the cable should be replaced. If the cable has been replaced already, it may be the UDS-IS11 itself generating the interference from being defective. Replace it.

Vertical Lines: If the lines run vertically throughout the image, it is probably a hardware problem, most likely with the scanner itself. However, follow the cable-reversing instructions above, remove the ?prescan.dib? file, and try the scan again. Often, if they are thin lines they are from dust within the optics. Open the case and blow out the dust with compressed air.

Canon MP980 prints horizontal pink lines across

try to change the color ink. horizontal banding (the pink or other color lines appearing means horizontal banding) when there is a problem on one of the heating element of the printer head. since almost all canon printers have head built in the inks, replacing the faulty ink will solve the problem. if not then the controller of printhead on the carriage and mainboard needs to be checked.

Lines across scan

It appears to be a freak problem. The best way is to bring it to original condition. Try uninstalling the scanner, run Scandisk on the Comp, Switch off and reinstall the driver. this may work.

I've had a similar problem with the streaks, lines and color bleeds appearing in the scan. Try uninstalling the all software and drivers for the scanner and reinstall. Worked for me. Have had to do this a couple of times since I've owned the scanner... about three to four years now.

Hp laserjet 3055 all in one

It was not the laster jet 3055 problem at all. It was the program that I was trying to run the scanner through. Seems as though the previous employee destroyed the program and that is why it was showing only lines when I would try to scan anything. Thank you for your support. Love hp products.
