To extract an angular degree from a sin, cos, or tan (reciprocal), use [2nd][TAN], [SIN], or [COS]. For example ... To get the angular degree for tan .5760, cycle [DRG] to set the entry mode to "DEG", then enter [.5760][2nd][TAN]. This calls the yellow function above the [TAN] key, TAN^-1^ and returns the decimal result 29.94. To change the display mode to show degrees, minutes, and seconds (DMS) with [2nd][=]. To change the display back to decimal use [2nd][+]. Note that to use degrees in calculations they must be in decimal mode. To convert the result between deg, rad, or grad, cycle [2nd][DRG].

For the TI-30Xa ... set entery mode to "deg" with [DRG], then input number and press [SIN], [COS], OR [TAN]. Most functions on that model require the pattern number, function. Here's a link to the TI-30Xa user manual in PDF format ... http://www.usm.maine.edu/math/120D/TI30xa.pdf

I'm not too sure what the actual problem is.
If the problem has nothing to deal with your mode not being in deg then I think it might be your input method.

Maybe you can provide an example?
Such as... sin 90.
So what you said is, you enter...
1)sin
2)number (in this case 90)
3)enter [=]

This will appear to be 90 on your F-502, which is obviously incorrect. For some strange reason, it operates different and you have to enter it in the different order.

Instead, try this:
1)number (in this case 90)
2)sin

This should give you an answer, without having to press enter [=], of 1, which is in fact correct.

To solve this problem locate the mode button on your TI83 calculator , press this and come down to where you see radian. once here use the right arrow to move to degree then press enter and clear.

Input the number first.
Press the trig function next.
That's it.

For example:
Press '3' and '0'.
Press 'SIN'
The display shows the answer:  0.500

From the description it's not a mode problem, it's a PBCAK - Problem Between Chair and Keyboard. This is a Reverse Polish Notation calculator. The correct way to get the sin of something is NOT "press sin, cos, or tan, put in a number, and press enter" it is "put in number and press sin, cos, or tan". Data first, then function. If you need to input more than one datum, use the ENTER key: "2 ENTER 2 +"

Most likely you do have the calculator in radians (or if you are working in radians, you have it in degrees). Press the mode button, move cruser down to "radians degrees" highlight degrees. and press "2nd quit". things sould be better!

How do i work out the Sin, Cos, and Tan on the TI-83 plus?

First, make sure you have the appropriate angular mode set. To change the angular mode, press MODE, use the arrow keys to highlight either "RADIAN" or "DEGREE" on the third line, press ENTER, then press 2ND [QUIT].

Press the appropriate sin, cos, or tan key (two rows above the 7, 8, and 9 keys), enter the angle, close the parenthesis, and press ENTER. For example, to calculate the sin of 2.1, press
SIN 2 . 1 ) ENTER

My TI-83 calculator doesnt gives me the solutions for tangents that have a negative number. Ex. tan(-1) -5/2

Once you reset your calculator, everything should be fine. Sometimes your calculator's memory stores your cos, tan, and sin and messes up your calucations.T o reset your calculator:
  1. Press 2nd then MEM (which is above the + key)
  2. Press 7 to reset
  3. Press 2 for default
  4. Press 2 again to reset defaults
  5. Press enter
  6. Done.
You should be able to get the answer for that, which is 3.8935, in radians at least. :)

Sin, cos, and tan do not seem to work properly.

Press "Mode" Check to see if you are in radian mode or degree mode (one of the top categories)
If you are entering your numbers from sin, cos, and tan as degrees and you are in radians, your answers will be off. Same goes for if you are inputting radians while in degree mode. Hope this helps

I have a TI-84 Plus Silver Edition calculator and I need to find the inverse key to get values for sin, cos, tan, csc, sec, cot. I'm past the lesson where you use the 2nd/sin, cos tan to find the...

There are no keys for cosecant, secant, and cotangent. You can calculate those ratios as

csc(x) = 1/sin(x)

sec(x) = 1/cos(x)

cot(x) = 1/tan(x)

Simply calculate the trig ratio on the right and then take its reciprocal.

Wrobg answer whenever I use radians

Hello,
To avoid problems, set your angle unit to radians by default. Press [MODE]. If Radian is highlighted (text on black background), it is indeed the default mode. If Degreee is highlighted, scroll dowm to the line and use the left arrow to select Radian and press ENTER. Radian will start blinking.
Any number you feed a function that acts on angles (sin, cos, tan) will be considered in radians. Any result that comes out of the inverse trigonometric functions (arcsin, arccos, arctan) is in radian. The angle coming from a conversion from cartesian coordinates to polar coordinates is in radian.
You have a simple way to convert the value from radians to degrees because 1 rad=180/pi. Store this value in a variable [STO->] D
180/[2nd][PI] [STO->] D

Since the last result is always stored in [Ans] all you have to do is to multiply by D: [Ans][x][ALPHA]D converts results in degrees.

Hope it helps
