Scanner actioc show 4 possibilities to scan: Doc-Photo, to network folder scan to email, manage scan to computer.
When trying Scan to Email Wizard, am prompted with a nag screen
saying The Scan to E-Mail feature is not supported on your printer.
Is there a firmware to change this or should i return all my printers to HP!
Thanks.
Had exact same problem. Went to HP site and they said to check "add or remove programs" functions (in control panel) and if there are multiple copies of HP software to download their fix. I checked, had multiple copies, downloaded patch and all worked well again.
The best way to scan documents from the scanner to your computer is to use HP Photosmart Essential. If you don`t already have it installed it can be downloaded from the HP site. Once in the program it is very simple to follow. It is basically a point and click operation.
Let me know how you make out and we can do other things if this doesn`t work for you.

Usually for HP printers not being recognized because they loose their IP address on the network or the computer can't see it.
What you can do is completley uninstall the HP software for the Officejet 8600, then go to HP.com lookup the officejet 8600 under Support > Download Drivers. download the latest full installation then run the install. When it ask you how to install it do the custom install and then only select the things you want to install.
When it ask you to do the eprint set up you can skip that part. also once install try running the HP updates for find any Network fixes or and Firmware updates.

Just set up email as normal, scan doc to pc,check docs or scan folder on pc for scanned doc, open new email and click the attach icon, navigate to scanned doc folder, highlight and press ok, then type address and send.
lift the lid on your scanner lay the photo face down then select scan document/photo it will ask what format you want to scan it then it will ask where you want to save it browse select the file/folder where you want to save it (my pictures) most common you can send an attachment to a company by an email open up your new email type in the adress then you should see attachment depending on which email you are using select attachment then you will open up a browse window navigate to your document/attachment select it you might have to wait a few seconds for it to load as an attachment then click send
if you have a scanner ..you just have to scan it using the scanner software from computer ..and after that save the doc into computer and insert it as an attachment ...if you do not have a scanner software ..use a photo manager like acdsee and import from device (also you can import from device with windows movie maker ) but I suggest to go to the manufacturer's support site ...and look for the software they recommend to work with the scanner ...and use it cause ...the scanners original software will import the document not just like a photo ..but if you need like a PDF..file..After that just attach on email and send pr right click on file and send via email...

Yes, the type of scanning mentioned by the previous answer is called 'pull scanning' and you will have limited functionality. You have to load the document on the copier, turn on the scanner (nobody can use the machine now) return to your desk which I hope is not far from the copier because the doc stays there until you 'insert picture from scanner' then the machine scans the document and you run back to the copier to get it before someone throws it in the trash! It's a free system but limited. To have a fully functioning 'push scanner' where you send a doc as you stand at the copier to either a file on your computer, server or an email address you would need a universal send kit installed. If your machine has one you'l see the option tab called 'SEND' along the top of your screen. If you have this you're in luck. All you need is to enter the necessary network and email settings which can be done by any half decent network administrator vis the 'system settings' area from the addtional functions screen (accessed by pressing the head key with a star in it). Once this is set up merely select the 'SEND' tab and insert your document. In the top right hand corner will be a drop down menu reading either 'FILE' 'EMAIL' or 'FTP' If you want to send it to a shared folder on your network (anywhere) you select the 'FILE' option and then use the drop down menu in the centre of the screen to search the network for your shared folder. Select it and then press ok then the start key - IT'S GONE - IF YOU'RE LUCKY. To send to email you just select the 'EMAIL' option and enter the email address of the recipient and ok then start and you're in business provided that all the network and email settings are correctly entered and permissions for network access is set up. The machine needs a email account registered for it as well. I'm tired now - good luck.
On my version of the hp software I can quite easily do this.
You will need working email software on your pc, so to scan the image, ensure that the pc is connected to the scanner and the pc is switched on - with all the HP scanning software installed.
Press the scan button on top of the scanner, with the document inside the scanner faced down.
When the HP Software pops up on the PC - the scanned image should appear. You can then click the email as attachment button in the HP software.
There are many ways to do this operation. So if you get stuck then let me know I we can go into more detail.
