Totally dead. Vizio GV42L

Tv went dead. Found circut breaker tripped in my circut breaker panel. Reset breaker, now Tv won't turn on. No lights, no clicking, nothing. Did all the easy stuff, tried different outlet, changed power cord.
Any ideas?

Just took Vizio (42 in 1080p FHDTV) out of box, inserted power cord into a surge protector and it tripped my circuit breaker. Reset the circuit breaker and tried again into different outlet but circuit breaker tripped again.  Tried other tv's into the same outlets and there were no problems.  Exchanged TV for exact same model and tried again.  Plugged TV into surge protector and powered on the TV w/o problems.  Turned TV off and tried to connect audio video cables from cable box to TV but as soon as the metal portion of the AV cables touched the metal portion of the AV input on the TV it generated a spark and some smoke came rising out of the TV, even suffered a small burn on my thumb.  Why is this happening? Other TVs work perfectly fine with the same surge protector and outlets.

If the circuit breaker was tripped, more likely the fuse inside the TV power supply might also be blown. If that is the case there might be a short circuit in the power supply components, more likely on a diode or transistor/mosfet.
Contact these website to see if they have the parts for your plasma.
Good Luck.

My Vizio VX37L HDTV won't turn on. Was watching it one day & it turned off by itself. Replaced power supply with new one with no luck. Orange light comes on but will not turn white.

reset the tv with the tv off, but plugged in hold down the soarce botton on the tv for 5 seconds it should click on and work. if not then there may be curcuit board issues. i found the same tv on the side of the road as somewone was throwing it out, it was leaning aganst their trash can. i brought it home. plugged it in and it went on and inediatly went to the orange vizio light. i rest it and it's been perfect ever since is my comoute monitor now...good luck i hope that fixes it for you..

Have a carrier 92 furnace. electric motor will not kick on...just hums. red light on circuit board flashes...help?

see this causes and fix it. God bless you
If the furnace won't run, check the electrical service panel for a blown fuse or tripped breaker. Also make sure the power switch on or near the furnace is turned on. Check the unit for a reset button and try it. Some units have a built-in breaker or fuse panel.
However you can have a missing 1 phase , test with the VOM, for to measure voltage. Or motor need repair for winding trouble, bearing. If you do not have enough experience call some electrician.
God bless you

Tv popped and went dead

Sounds like the power supply failed. If out of warranty and you want to open it up, look for damaged parts on the power supply board. Unplug the set. Use your nose to sniff out the burnt parts.

How to reset tv. Have sound but black screen

LCD's use a colorful crystal see through display which only visible when light is shining through it. if you have sound and no picture it's always a faulty PSU. Very easy to change out actually.

3 years old, totally dead dryer

remove the back panel look on the side of the heating element look for a small red button on the thermal fuse push it in.
Also look on the left side by the belt and motor you should see a black piece of plastic with small springs on it push it to the right to reset it if this has tripped, this is a saftey kill switch that gets activated by the drum belt if there if a sudden problem with the belt tension

SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME

if it just went blank but the "VIZIO" light turns white when you turn it on, then the control board is most likely the problem. very common on Vizio, all sixes

Vizio GV42L 42inch LCD/HDTV

there are several possibilities. first if the unit comes on and the "VIZIO" light turns white, but no picture or sound, then the main control board is most likely the issue. could be the LCD control board(s) depending on model one or two. and ultimately could be the power supply on the upper side....if the "VIZIO" light does NOT turn white, the whole power supply unit is out. after that, would have to scope the circuits to find out. Seems that the control board is the most common and tends to happen on many different sizes. new board will be around $350.00. Might get lucky and find a used one, but it MUST be EXACT part or it wont work right. if you dont find one or want to sell yours for parts, id be interested in the screen. can reach me at [email protected]. thanks, keith

TV flickers when turned on. This affects both sound and picture contantly and quickly going in and out. Amber light is on when TV is off, and white light is on with TV. I turned on the TV and it was...

this TV has built-in MOV's, the exact same thing you find in the surge protection bars... perhaps one of those has done it's job and fried OR something totally different is working a mess on the PwrSup board, like the 450V cap that is always powered at least under 150V while the set is off and pluged in with amber light.

If you don't know you way around PWM electonics your next step may be to call Vizio. Good luck on getting this resolved to your satisfaction for less than $300.
