When the machine goes into defrost the heater in the freezer comes on and melts all frost off of the evaporator coil, the water goes down a drain line down to where the compressor and condensor coil is and there the water evaporates, your drain is blocked so the water can't drain down and leaks into the fridge section.when you write looking for answers you have to send the model number off of the machine,if the freezer is on top open the fridge door and look on the left side wall up near the ceiling and there should be a tag with model number, unplug the fridge or shut down the cold control, remove everything from the freezer and remove the back inside wall of the freezer, with a hair dryer melt out all the ice under the evap coil,i use a steamer to clean out the drain,if you don't have one you can try a turkey baster or anything that will push air or water down the drain hole, when you think the drain is clear pour hot water into the hole,if it drains down then it's clear,if not keep hitting it,you can also heat up the back center wall and ceiling in the fridge section to help melt out the ice.there's also a heater probe you can buy that you stick into the drain and it raps around the heater, when the heater comes on the probe heats up and keeps the drain from freezing up,you can also use a ground wire from an electrical piece of house wire or from a cable wire, cut a piece around 6 inches, stick it into the hole and rap the end around the heater,if it's a glass heater connect the wire to the metal in front of the heater,if 6 inches is to long trim it down a little so it fits.good luck,if you need anymore help let me know.

SOURCE: Whirlpool Gold refrigerator water leaking

If it's flooding, it's NOT the drain pan. It's probably the water valve has gotten stuck in the open position. Hope this helps!

SOURCE: Whirlpool refrigerator ED22TEXHW01 ice maker

Tammi, you first want to check to make sure the water inlet tube to the icemaker is not frozen shut. Next, get yourself a jumper wire about 4 inches long with the ends stripped exposing the wire on each end. Pull off the ice maker cover, it will pull right off. Now you are looking at the module. On the module, left side, you will see two test points marked V and L. Insert one end of the jumper wire into V and the other marked L. You are now sending 120 volts to the water valve and water should fill the ice maker providing the inlet tube is not frozen over. If it doesn't fill, you either have a bad water valve or module itself. Also check to see if the clips that hold the center gear on the module are not broken. Catriver..post back.

SOURCE: water in bottom of fridge

Thanks to all who spent money or shared their experience to have somebody do this repair, and I really mean it.
I have a Whirlpool TopLoad Fridge (not a side by side).
Things you'll need
30 minutes
Small socket for cardboard panel on lower back and panel inside freezer
Bicycle Pump
4 Towels
Hair Dryer

1. Take everything out of freezer
2. Turn dials off in fridge for both compartments
3. Pull fridge out so you can get behind it and unplug it
4. Be vigilant of ice maker line if installed
5. Pull cardboard panel off on back
On the left side you should see the back of the skinny drip pan and a small line. That line goes from the freezer and is most likely clogged.
6. Blow dry the back of the freezer enough so the ice is thawed at the bottom of the back panel.
7. Remove the two screws on the back panel. You may just be able to pull it toward you enough to get behind it. You'll see the coils and fan, and underneath these you may see some ice sheets and there should be a hole. That is the drain line that is clogged. I heated up some water and poured it over the drain to thaw the line. You may want to remove the crisper drawers and put some towels down there to catch the overflow. Once the ice is thawed enough at the drain. Go to the back of the fridge and place the end of the bicycle pump at the bottom of the drain hose. Apply pressure to get a good seal but keep pumping. You may have to go back and forth between pumping and thawing, but you'll know it is clear when you hear air going into the freezer and then the wonderful moment when water drips into the drip pan as advertised!

Keep those fridges less full so that the door stays sealed and keep the seal clean and also keep your doors from having too much stuff so the weight of the door doesn't pull away.

Okay, put it back together, turn everything on and be careful of your cord and lines when pushing the fridge back. Thank the Lord ours has wheels and man,was it cruddy underneath. Vacuum those coils underneath the fridge too for proper air circulation.

Blessings to you!

SOURCE: My Whirlpool refrigerator Model # ED5RHEXNL00 Ice maker broken

Hello. Thanks for choosing fixya! The most common cause for your problem is that someone accidentally raised the wire in the icemaker area that turns it off. Check that first if the wire is up, push it down and within a few hours you will have new ice. The second most common problem is that the cubes in the mold got stuck in there. the fix is to use a blow dryer to free them up, then dry out the mold and spray some PAM cooking spray in to the mold to lubricate it. The final possibliity is that there is ice in the water supply line that feeds your ice maker. Once again get out the blow dryer and thaw that ice so that the water flows once again. good luck with it. regards, joe

Whirlpool refrigerator #ER2CHMXPL02 I think I have two separate problems. 1st one is a water leak that fills the bottom bins daily! The freezer does not seem to be defrosting, everything in there looks...

Could be that the freezer is too full with foodstuff and there is no air circulation, therefor, some places in the freezer build ice. The defroster is working and melting the ice that drips to the bottom bins.
I suggest you remove everything from the freezer. unplug the frigde. Let all ice build ups melt. Remove ice from the foodstuff and put back in. Make sure that vents in the freezer and fridge are not blocked.

Water accumalating in the bottom of the fridge.

A common problem. All modern refrigerators have an automatic deicer. The heater kicks in, then MELTS the ice in build up in the freezer for a short period before freezing again. This water drains either in the fridge or out the back to the catch tray. Simply pull out the bottom drawers and clean the clogged drain hold where the water can drain and evaporate in the catch tray as it is designed to.

I have a whirlpool fridge with the freezer on top. The ice maker is not making ice quickly. How can I fix this?

Good day,
As a general rule refrigerator ice makers don't really make ice cubes very fast.
Things that could increase the production are.
1. Set the freezer to a colder setting. That control is usually on a whirlpool is called an air control.
2. Setting the refrigerator control colder, while also help since setting it to a colder setting will actually make both compartments colder.
3. The ice maker produces ice when it's internal thermostat reaches approx. 14 degrees.
You have no control of that function.
4. If the cubes are on the small side, the water valve on the back bottom of the machine may need to be replaced.
5. Along that same line, the water supply line from the house and it's fittings could be starting to restrict, not supplying enough water pressure.
The line, unless plastic, and the valve would need either be removed and cleaned or replaced with new.

Ice Maker Overfills With Water

Ice maker has adjustment on right side of power head. If ice maker is inside on upper left, you can remove white cover from it and the adjusting screw in on right. Turning counter-clockwise will decrease fill by 1/2 to 3/4 of ounce. Sounds like a small amount, but ice make only uses 4 ounces per fill. If this does not fix, try replacing fill valve. If ice maker ice bin is in the freezer door, you have to remove cover to ice maker in the top of freezer. Ice maker is screwed into top of freezer and need to be removed to take off cover to adjuster screw. same procedure for reducing water flow time as above.

Ice maker flooded top freezer compartment

It may be just the water control valve on back of refrigerator. Put tap water in ice maker and lower lever for on. After ice is made, does it drop to tray? At this time when empty is the time the control valve is asked for water. The problem could be in valve on back or the inside ice maker itself. If you can try a few test with me I will help you locate the problem. Let me know what you find as I go through this with you. Sea Breeze

WATER AND ICE INSIDE MY FRIG

Most likely whats happening is you have a frozen drain for the defrost cycle. here are step by step instrutions for repair
  • Unplug refrigerator
  • unload food from freezer
  • remove icemaker if present (there are 3 screws remove the one on the bottom and loosen the 2 on top of icemaker then lift it off the 2 screws unplug from wiring harness)
  • remove 2 screws holding rear cover in place
  • move cover to the side or remove from unit altogether
  • defrost any and all ice from bottom of freezer and aluminum drain pan that is now exposed
  • flush drain hole that you will see once ice is cleared with warm water. (sometimes I use a large syringe or turkey baster to forcefully flush hot water thru the drain tube)
  • reassemble in reverse order

These are general instrutions for most top freezer refrigs. but if you need more specific directions dont hesitate to ask Thanks Peyton
