Projection image mis-aligned & out of focus

After replacing the color wheel and lamp in my Samsung HLP 5063W DLP, the projected image is mis-aligned with fixed screen (down / left). On attempting to realign, I managed to put the image slightly out of focus. Now the picture is out of alignment and fuzzy. What components affect alignment, and how do I adjust both these characteristics back to original quality?

of course I moved something ! The question is what component. Is it the color wheel position, or the lens? The lens was removed in attempt to correct the mis-alignment, and that's when I distorted the focus. From what I can see, the wheel and lens have a fixed position in the chassis.

prefer to have another solution besides purchase of manual, but thanks.

sorry if I sound sarcastic, but I was hoping to get someone who actually had experience with the model of tv and the proper adjustment to get it back to spec... if you can't provide that please don't answer in hopes of a commission

  • robc54 Dec 05, 2008

again with buy a service manual... I thought that's what this site was for... I guess I expect to much for $9.95

  • robc54 Dec 06, 2008

welcomjee, now we're getting somewhere. This sounds like something where I could do more harm than good. Have you known of anyone other than a professional that has done this successfully?

  • robc54 Dec 06, 2008

welcomejee, I'll take your info, but it sounds like this may be beyond my capability. For my curiosity, how might I have changed the picture alignment during my color wheel replacement?

Buy the service manual and perform a complete alignment setup procedure.

You said "again with buy a service manual", to undo a screw you need a screwdriver, to fix a tv you need to buy a service manual.

To align picture in DLP TV, you should know where and in what order 3 LCDs are fixed and on top of Light engine there are Hex Screws for alignment of each LCD.
I can provide you few illustrated pictures of light engine to give you an idea about alignment. A professional TV tech can perform alignment properly.

Did you get my message for Samsung tv problem?

  • Anonymous Dec 06, 2008

Let me clear one thing, light engine are not suppose to be repaired and in any problem with it, complete light engine will be replaced.

I can give you an idea how light engine works so I hope you can adjust LCDs position to produce good and clear picture. If you couldn't then get ready for new light engine.

  • Anonymous Dec 06, 2008

LCDs adjustments in DLP TV requires high tech knowledge and I did that in few TVs.
If you know some one who fix multimedia projectors, ask him /her to help you out as I'm far away from you.

  • Anonymous Dec 06, 2008

I don't know what part of light engine you have opened during color wheel replacement and got misaligned picture.
If you need illustrated pictures of light engine, you can email me at welcomejee at yahoo dot com because I can't post pictures here due to picture size limitation.

Picture of light engine as reference.

With power off/fan off...on the remote...
mute + 1 + 8 + 2 + power...you're in! Power off until fan kicks off to exit. Good luck!

Well it most likely got moved forward or backward while you where messing with it, and you need to determin the exact spot where it was.

Did you mess with the lense at all, if so, then you may have miss adjusted it and just needs you to re set it.

If you can, take a close picture of the unit and post it so i can see what type it is and help you better.

  • Chris Busch
    Chris Busch Dec 05, 2008

Well, then there is where i would start, the lense. it should be able to be adjusted like a regular optical lense on a camera, you turn it and it vounter or clock wise to focus it, if you took it out, be sure its not backwards as well.

Im just checking all the bases so dont get mad if you already tried it, just want to be sure.

Again, if you can take pictures and load them up, it would be a help, then i can see exactly what type lense and color wheel.

  • Chris Busch
    Chris Busch Dec 06, 2008

Well, since i asked for a few pics and you didnt provide them then i guess i'll leave you to the rest of the guys.

Its like adjusting the headlights on an old car, supposing you have ever done that, Some you adjust screws like card headlights with the HEX screws, Some have an adjustable lense that you tighten in place after adjusting it.

But since you failed to provide pictures so i could better assist you, i will be leaving, hopefully the others will have a better tolerance level

And before you talk about people just trying to get payed, I help anyone on this site who needs it and if i make a couple bucks , hey, but most of my help is to those who pay nothing.

Hope things go well with your T.V. and maybe next time you will learn something about what your doing, BEFORE you mess with it, rather than after.

If you dont get anywhere with this and still want some help, I will, provided you post pictures of the lense area of your projector so i can.

You can keep the Four dollars or give it to someone else if you want, I will help you despite that. My E-mail is [email protected], E-mail the pics and put the subject as ( Projector T.V. Pics) and i will help you after you have exhausted the fix ya resources.

I just ask that you please respect those trying to help.

Samsung hlp-5063w no picture when its on

Do you have three flashing lights on the front? You most likely have a problem with your lamp or color wheel. Those two component combined are pretty much the guts of your TV. If you are handy, you can replace those parts yourself. I have a 50" Samsung DLP and I've already replaced those to items myself. Otherwise, you can contact Samsung at 1-800-SAMSUNG and they can assist.

I bought my parts using Amazon, had them shipped to me, and took an afternoon to take about the back of the TV; documenting everything and taking photos of the progress, until it was done. There may be video tutorials on Youtube. There was for my model (HLS5086). Here is a great link to help you along. Good luck.

Samsung HLP 5063W

Hi it sounds like the problem is with the convergenge ics these can be replaced but the problem usually comes from a bad resistor this causing the ic to go.
The only problem is without having the proper testing equipment in front of you you could keep guessing and never find the problem the best thing to do is if you dont have the equipment nor the knowledge of diagnosing the problem it is best left to somebody who know what they are looking for.
I see this problem often on these sites and it all comes down to the convergence ic failing they usuall fail to a resistor failing on the main board the board will need testing and tracing back from the ics to eliminate any resistors that could have failed.
I have seen alot of people that have replaced the ics without checking the resistors and then they have the same problem shortly after.
The resistors tend to start failing shortly after the warranty has run out.
The cheapest sollution would be for you to take the tell yourself to repair shop as calling somebody out might charge for the call out and for transporting the tell.
Their isnt much you can do yourself but if you need it i can get the spec sheet for you so you can follow circuit diagrammes let me know what you want to do

Samsung HLP 4663w dlp-hdtv replaced lamp and ballast, still not working. lamp/standbytemp and timer all flashing. i get no clicking on ballast, upon power up all i hear is low fan or vibration sound which...

If the capacitor on the ballast was puffed up or blown up you have to replace the lamp, ballast & SMPS at the same time. But if the ballast is not trying to fire the lamp it sounds like the color wheel is not coming up to speed. If this is the case, the set will not turn on.

DLP Image

In some cases, after installing a new color wheel, the speed of the wheel motor must be adjusted to obtain proper speed to ensure a satisfactory image. Unfortunately, you can not and should not attempt to do this adjustment yourself as the service menu contains many adjustments which if accidentily mis-adjusted may cause irrepairable harm to your TV. Ask a local samsung servicer to do an "index delay" adjustment in the service menu.

My DLP TV wont turn on.

As part of the power up sequence on the Samsung HLP-4336W the lamp isn't turned until timing pulses are detected from the color wheel. The color wheel motor is powered through the flat brown four conductor ribbon cable and the timing pulses are detected over the the three conductor ribbon table.
