When the printer shows cartridge error that means. 1)the cartridges r either faulty .it can be 1 out of 2 cartridges or may be both the cartridges faulty.if this is the case replace the cartridges. 2)it could also be the case that cartridge is not fitted properly if this the case remove the cartridge and reinsert them properly. 3)it could also happen if there is dirt on the printer and cartridge circuit.if this is the caee remove the cartridges and clean both the printer and cartridge circuit.and then reinsert and check.
I had this problem and tried everything that was said across these blogs. Nothing worked. Here is what I did in order to get things working again:
NOTE: Even though nothing looked dirty I was very thorough and cleaned every contact at least 2 times.
After this the printer worked fine and I no longer had the error. I hope this helps.

Cartridge error problem...I have cleaned the machine but I'm still getting the same error...What should I do cause we have ink...
Pls my printer is briging cartridges error
I wish I did. I followed doncarlsen's instructions, after doing similar thing the other day with distilled water, but...it still doesn't work. What next?
Follow up to my last post. I had the error reoccur just recently. Solution:
1. Purchase new cartridge set (color and black). Note: you can get off brand ink cartridges off of eBay or amazon for a around $20 for a set. You do not need hp.
2. OR if you have an old cartridge that you kept after removing it from before, then you can use old cartridges.
3. Remove one cartridge at a time and replace it with the new cartridge.
4. The next close the door and see if the error disappears, if not then unplug the printer for 10 seconds and plug it back in.
5. If that did not fix it, then put the old cartridge back in. Note: put a piece of tape on the back where you just punctured a hole in the cartridge.
6. Repeat steps 3-5 until error clears
7. Last step if above is unresolved: Renove all of the old cartridges and install the brand new ones.
I have done this two times and once the cyan color was the issue and another time it was my black carrridge. This worked for me both times and I hope this helps others out with this frustrating issue.

Is this problem fixable? I've cleaned the contacts already and the ink is new
I photocopied a document....instead of placing it on top of the glass, i insert it where we use to fax ( our fax machine at work both worked when document is placed on the glass or where we fax) it works the same.......then suddenly dispaying CARTRIDGE ERROR.Refer to device documentation to troubleshoot
