Plasma TV-power light does not come on

My 42" Plasma TV has always been plugged on the outlet. Today, I found there was no red light on the TV. I tried to unplug and re-plug, there was no power come to the TV set. I don't see there is any place for fuse replacement or other opening that I can check. Any suggestions?

    hi.

i have basically the same problem, except my sony hdtv is the european model 32U2000. I also get a clicking noise...but no power light and obviously no power. could it be the fuse? if so, when i open the back will the fuse box be obviously there, or will i need to uncover something else first?

    thanks.

My 42" Sony Plasma TV (PFM-42B2) was working properly and suddenly it stopped working. The red light comes on (changed itself to standby mode: like I turned it OFF). I tried to turn the unit ON and i can hear some clik like it's going to start, but it switched itself from Green ON to red light OFF. What could be the problem? Please help..

    Thanks.

red or green light does not come on.
Have to control everything from the console since remote won't work without the red or green light being on.
    Batteries in remote are fine.

  • MickeyBee Mar 18, 2008

When using either remote or panel button to power TV on, the red light goes green, you hear relays clicking and then within seconds, the light goes red and TV is in standby mode.  Called NEC who gave info for local guys they recommend for repair; even after describing problem over phone, they said they could come to look at it for $175.  They were here less than 10 minutes, tried to turn the TV on and confirmed what they had been told over the phone, and then diagnosed that it needs a new scan board and command board at a cost of $1300 plus!  Don't waste your money like I did - just buy a new one.  And I can guarantee I won't be buying another NEC ...

I puchased the 42" plasma with ambianlight 18 months ago and the power went out. I called Philips but they have no solutions, except to send it to one of their approved service centers. What a nightmare!! It has been there for 2 weeks and no solution. I've been told by their service tech. that the entire "power pack" may need to be replaced and could cost $500 plus labor.

You have burned an internal fuse on the main power board. There are 2 right next to where the main power line plugs in ( after the noise filter ). Yes, you will have to unscrew the rear plate to get to it ( about 24 screws ). You just follow where the lead goes from the plug - you will see where the fuses are - right next to where the plug mounts to the power board. To check this set your meter to ohms and check for continuity - odds are one of the two fuses is done. THIS IS A PANASONIC SPECIFIC FUSE - it cannot be replaced with one that looks like it or fits the same slot. This fuse is a time-delay slow burn fuse and replacing it with anything other than the correct type will cause more damage and possibly total the unit. The panasonic part number is K5D802BNA005 and is available from several parts retailers - just google "panasonic part K5D802BNA005" and many reputable firms will come back on the search. They cost approx. $1.95 US ( so the shipping is probably 7.00 more ) Hope this helps and be careful of the internals and static electricity from your body.

If you have blinking lights or no lights or steady red light this is a power problem the best solution is to get a service manual for your set and find the symtoms and there is usually a trobleshooting guide for the repair in the service manual a steady red light means the p a board needs to be checked or replaced blinking lights can mean a fuse is blown or a board may be bad no lights may mean bad connection bad power unit or fuse before you start guesing or calling expensive repair company do your research find a service manual and if you really can handle this fix then you can get a used non working tv and switch out the parts with out spending a fortune..most people break the screens so theres plenty of lcd's being sold as is for parts try ebay or craigslist ..
hope this helps

The fuse is located on the inside of the tv. you have to remove the the rear panel as if repairing.

A blown internal fuse would cause things to appear completely dead. It is not intended to be user serviced. If you do find a blown fuse, never replace it with a larger size. Using an oversized fuse may cause additional damage. If the same size blows again there is some sort of fault, typically something like a shorted diode, electrolytic capacitor, or switching transistor.

There could be more than one fuse. Sometimes there is one on the AC power coming in, and one or more on various outputs from the main power supply. The AC line fuse may fail simply from a nasty surge coming down the power line. Other fuses usually blow from internal faults.

The main page for this site suggests there are service manuals here. I haven't seen any. They'd be very helpful to someone like me that understands electronics. They're generally beyond what end-users can understand.

JoeJoe206, your problem sounds the same as what just happened to my FWD-42PV1, which was 2 months past its warranty. When i plug it in, the green light goes on and i get clicking every few seconds for about 15 seconds, then it gives up and just goes to red. The picture never comes on. There was a pretty detailed diag manual i found online that indicated that it is most likely the A board or the G board (the power board) but the troubleshooting section looked translated from Japanese. Both A and G boards are pricey boards ($400/$550). If you find anything interesting, drop me a line at markahlady -at- yahoo.

Try plug it somewhere else in the room or plug something that you know works in the outlet where the tv was plugged to make sure there is current

If you are under warranty and have a TV over 32", then they should come to you and repair it. Call the help line and they'll set it up. It could take a week for a local tech to make it.

I had the exact same problem and had to return the unit for repair. After examination I was told it was a power supply and they would fit a reconditioned (as they don't make new ones! ) for $750 AU.

Several visits to my home, the repairer, angry phone calls and about 10 weeks without a working TV and I got the unit back. The power works fine but after several weeks I am seeing white snow appearing on the screen !

SOURCE: Plasma TV-power light does not come on

There are a couple of possibilities here. If the set is indead dead, the most likely culprit is the "standby" transformer. If you are getting a click followed shortly thereafter by another click, then the TV is detecting a problem and shutting down to prevent further damage.

And if you get no clicks or anything at all, I would suggest you to look at the fuse and the standby transformer. The standby transformer is a small transformer that supplies 5V to the system even when off to allow remote control. You need to see if the primary side of this transformer is open or not. You should have 5V.

Goodluck,
Please don't forget to rate me as fixya..

The fuses are inside the TV is you remove the back cover but even changing the fuse it might not work because it could have other failures in the other board assemblies.

Power light blinks 14 times

You have a power malfunction. Recheck your power connections. If the TV still persists in behaving in this manner don't try to turn it back on, but do find out if the TV is worth repairing. Most now are made so cheaply that nobody will try to repair them. I've always bought used televisions, even when they had vacuum tubes. I bought my LED at a major store's resale outlet and saved a bundle. (Quite frankly, TVs and other electronics today are so complicated and untized and made so cheaply- and sold so dearly- that if one goes bad you don't even bring it in except for them to verify it. Then they give you a new one. They're simply not worth repairing to the companies. and its an opportunity for them to sell you a better one at a discount. Of course, if you are under warranty, you might be all set. PS: those extended warranty contracts are not worth the paper they are printed on and no smart consumer ever buys one. they're for suckers) Good luck.

Why won't my Panasonic 42 TCP42S30 42 Plasma TV turn on.

Switch off TV, switch off power, remove plug and wait for 48 hours and retry.
If problem persists, I suggest it is better to refer it to a qualified service
technician, since the back cover has to be opened for investigation/rectification.

AKAI 32" LCD HDTV WILL NOT TURN ON

The only solution at this point would be to get the power supply repair since new boards are not longer being manufactured. In about 95% of the time if the LCD doesn't power up or turns OFF by itself or need to be unplug for some time to make work again; those are the symptoms of a dying or defective power supply.
I service these power supplies, for more info write to [email protected]
