I think for every one it is specified what to eat or what not to eat,weather it is any type of species.Thing is dog and cat foods contain very high complex protein and fats which fish cant digest and maybe lead them to die also.Rather buy stuff which only fish can eat.I think the people who have fish in their own aquarium love to travel to fish places or spot where they can learn about fishing .
No, prolonged feeding of cat food (particularly tinned cat food) will kill your fish as the oil content is something the fishes digestive system cannot really handle, if you mean the cat biscuit type dried food again it is not a food you should feed fish as the nutrients the fish will not take will end up causing algal blooms in both tanks and ponds. Much better to use a pond pellet or in an aquarium fish flake food.
I do not recommend feeding your fish anything other thanfish food. Fish food is specificallydesigned to be nutritious and digestible to fish. You cannot say the same about any otheranimals' food.
