The camcorder is totally dead with a cassette stuck inside which I would like to retrieve undamaged if possible.
I have managed to remove all the external case parts except for one. This is the largest section of casing that forms the camera base, the right hand side of the camera around the cassette door and wraps around the top. I have removed all visible external screwws but the casing seems to be held internally somewhere near the carrying strap location.
Once this case part is off hopefully I will be able to eject the cassette or wind the mechanism to eject it.
Does anybody know how to remove this final piece of casing please?

SOURCE: My Cassette Tape Deck is Jammed Open - Help!
Glad to hear that you got the unit working. One thing you might want to do now that you resolved the jammed problem, to avoid future problems, is with the cassette deck open, look in to the opening and check all the metal parts for any signs of being bent or twisted, even slightly. There is a reason that the door has a spot marked "push door shut here". Pushing it anywhere else will usually bend something. It may be working now but who knows. Usually when you force the cassette mechanisms on the little camcorders you bend something and sooner or later it will come back to haunt you. Now you can open and close it so it would be an easier fix. If you find anything bent you will need to carefully straighten it. Believe me, a little time spent now will save alot of grief later. Perhaps your father-in-law would have the skills to check it and straighten any bent parts. Even if you don't find any problems you will at least have peace of mind knowing that everything is OK. Good luck.

SOURCE: Panasonic Palmcorder PV-43D cannot get door open
Hi there.
Sometimes a gentle slap with the palm of your hand with the door facing towards the ground does the trick, make sure you power it off then on press eject while you gently slap it.
Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!
