Have you tried other DVD's in this unit and they work? If so it might be just an incompatibility issue with that DVD in your TV.

DVP-NS30 shows "CANNOT PLAY" message when DVD inserted

Follow this procedure to troubleshoot if the DVD player cannot read or play the inserted disc.
  1. Ensure the inserted disc is compatible with the DVD player.IMPORTANT: Refer to the operating instructions supplied with the product for a list of compatible disc. Manuals are available online in the Manuals/Specs/Warranty section of the Sony® eSupport Web site.
  2. Use a soft cloth to clean the disc.
  3. Examine the disc for any cracks or scratches that might be interfering with playback.
  4. Attempt to play another disc.NOTES:
    • If another disc plays in the DVD player, then the previous disc is faulty.
    • Some recordable discs may not play correctly because of the quality of the recording, the physical condition of the disc, or the characteristics of the recording device or authoring software used.

  5. Remove the disc from the DVD player.
  6. Turn off the DVD player.
  7. Unplug the power cord of the DVD player from the AC outlet.
  8. Let the DVD player remain without power for 1 minute.
  9. Plug the power cord back into the AC outlet.
  10. Turn on the DVD player.
  11. Insert the disc into the DVD player.
  12. Attempt to play the disc.
If still persists, its time for your device to get serviced.

DVD doesn't play any disk anymore. Displays a message: this can't of disc can't be played ... I tried several different types of disks.

Same here! It would say something along the lines of "this type of disc cannot be played. please insert a different disc." it's the appropriate dvd region, i've tried all types of dvds, and it still won't work. the vhs and cd still works, it's just the dvd player that won't.

Player Does not play any type of Disc

Press case lid where it attaches to player. If this makes unit react you have a defective lid switch. You can probably put some weight over it to hold lid down and it will operate. Otherwise switch must be repaired
