The radio has a heat sink as it has a amp built into it--about 100 watts maximum output---get someone with a DUMMY load and watt meter and see what it is putting out power wise--Most of the RCI have a variable control on the front for power output.

SOURCE: radio issues

Your getting different readings because the S.W.R is not the same in the car as to the house. If you placed a 50 ohm dumb load on ANT outlet the readings will be similar.

Why would my rci 2950 work at lower watts 'but when i turn the watts up the meter drops and the radio shuts down? I can turn it off and back on and it works again till i try to turn the rf power up '

you are probably heating up the final at the high output and thats whats happening.Could also be somethig else.Take it to a tech and have them look at it.

Tuneup rci 63ffc4 pick & tune get more power

Cant recommend you doing that or letting a common cb shop in it. That thing is a monster a beautiful monster send it back to a RCI authorized shop and protect the warranty they will tweak it to its max with out compromising the durability. Before you do send this unit off i stongly suggest a 100 amp power supply it may be overkill but you might notice a different on a watt-meter

Sorry if this was of little help it might relieve you of a lot of hassle and depression later...... good luck
