Hi. To reset an HP Officejet 6500 E709a or 6500 Wireless E709n, follow these simple steps:
1. Press the (*) and (#) buttons on the printer control panel at the same time and let go.
2. Use right and left arrows to scroll trhough menu and select "Resets"
3. Select "Semi-Full" reset and printer will shut off in a few seconds.
4. Unplug the printer from wall and wait 30 seconds.
5. Plug in the printer, Turn printer on and selec basic settings.
Your printer is now reset!!!

I don't have a 6310 but I do have 4 printers one of which is a 5610. I never bothered w/ a reset switch because I would just turn the printer off, then unplug everying for 2min. Then I would reconnect everything back. If it doesn't work, I suggest you uninstall the software and reinstall it again. Let me know if this helps.

In absence of another solution, I finally switched the Officejet off. No idea if that "trashed" the memory or anything else, but it's working again - for now.
I am surprised that nobody, especially HP, has a real answer (let alone a solution) for this problem, when the same question about the same model has been asked since 2007 or before! I'll keep hoping, because the consensus seems to be that the "Assert! Memeory trashed?" WILL happen again.

I had same problem. Try this: When you go to print, change your ink quality to "draft". For some reason, I was able to print after trying everything. Hope this works for you!
