We bought a brand new Olevia 42" LCD HDTV in June, model #242T. We were watching a movie last night (DirecTV), when suddenly the picture went gray and started flickering. It looked a little like the static you see on regular TV's when there's no signal. The sound continued just fine.
We turned the TV off, waited a few minutes, then turned it back on. Normally, the Olevia logo comes up, then the regular picture comes up. This time, all we got was gray flickering. No logo. Nothing.
We unplugged the TV completely, waited about 20 minutes, and tried again. Same thing.
The weird thing is that nothing else works, either. You can't change the input source. The buttons on the remote do nothing. Same for the buttons on the TV. On/off is the only thing that works.
I don't think it could've been a power surge, because none of the other electronics were affected. Not even the two computers. Plus we've got everything on surge protectors.
We can't call Olevia until tonight, but maybe someone has some suggestions in the meantime? We scrimped and saved to buy this TV as our 20th anniversary gift to ourselves, so we're totally bummed. :-(
We did buy the extended warranty through Office Depot, but apparently it doesn't start until the manufacturer's warranty runs out. Hopefully Olevia will honor their warranty. I heard they were restructuring their company or something.

There has been a change ownership from Syntax-Brillian to Olevia International Group.

Unfortunately for all of us (we have 747i) service seems very poor and the failure mode you describe doesn't give me any clues despite 40+ years of service experience.
Ours is still 100% but I now suspect our trouble will come.

I have all of the same problems and did the same thing. If I am using my Xbox360 and leave it on for 5 mins or so it the picture and sound will work then make a screeching sound until i unplug it
This just happened to me!! I was watching a movie on Directv and the picture went out and started flickering kinda like a strobe light... i've looked at all the manuals and found no troubleshooting so I did the standard unplug wait to reset, turn the on/off switch on the back - wait for a reset... but nothing! This was bought in june so i've only had it 6 months!!!
I purchased the warranty for mine and when it went on the fritz, I called tech support and they told me my problem was covered and I would receive a standard replacement.I downloaded the UPS shipping label they sent me and I sent it back. When I called to see if it was received , they told me that the screen was cracked and that they could not honor the replacement waranty. Tell me, If Oleivia paid for the shipping, and insurance, HOW can I be out $1,000 now ??? Warranty and all . I think it is a scam Beware people, they can tell anybody that the set was damaged and will not honor your warranty.
Bought a 42" Olivia 9/22/07 from target.....just "went out" today...same problems as shown above...sound; no picture except of a faint gray/blue fog..............expensive experience...with little hope for any recovery. You get what you pay for.
I have the same problem. I was watching TV and it went white and black and then a greyish color. You can see some sort of black light still on, and the audio is fine but nothing. The first time it happened I unplugged it and the next day it came on. It worked for about another month and then the same thing happened and now after a week of trying everything I can't get it to come on.
