We have an old Shacklock GW 52 washing machine which has suddenly developed the following fault. On any wash mode water is pumped in intermittently four times for about two seconds with each pump. The progress light then advances to deep rince. The machine then beeps until I turn the machine off. With the machine turned on again I can advance to spin. The machine will pump the water out but not spin. Is this more of an electronic problem rather than mechanical. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks for your reply Owen. Whereabouts do I locate the controller in the machine.

Thanks for your help Owen but it was just too much for the old machine to cope with. After 23 years of service it refused to resuscitate. Must have got got a good one out of the batch. Cheers.

It is a motor overcurrent issue, it can be caused by either the motor or the motor controller. you can try disconnecting the motor from the controller and cleaning the plug with contact cleaner but it doesn't always work.

Motor controller is in the base if the machine, you need to remove the lower back panel.

Just found on my very old Shacklock F&P ECS GW51S that would not spin, burnt smell from controller p/n 422742 mounted in bottom by motor. Removed and disassembled, found burnt leg at solder joint onto circuit board. Cleaned and re-soldered wire to bridge joint. Works fine. Phil S

Washer won't drain

DIAGNOSTIC MODE
To enter diagnostic mode follow the steps below.
1. Turn the power on at the power point but off at the machine.
2. Press and hold WASH TEMPERATURE SETTING DOWN and then press POWER until the
machine gives 2 short beeps and lights up.
3. Release the buttons after the beeps as the beeps indicate diagnostic mode has been entered.
4.1 Last Fault Data
When in diagnostic mode the last fault can be found by pressing the SPIN SPEED UP or DOWN
buttons until the HOLD and SLOW lights are illuminated. Binary can then be read from the wash
progress lights.
4.2 Drain Pump Test
MW Washer
When in diagnostic mode press SMART TOUCH CYCLES to activate the drain pump. To
deactivate the pump, press SMART TOUCH CYCLES again.
GW Washer
When in diagnostic mode press REGULAR to activate the drain pump. To deactivate the pump,
press REGULAR again.

4.3 Water Valve Test
The water valves can be activated in diagnostic mode by pushing WASH TEMPERATURE SETTING UP to activate the Hot Valve and WASH TEMPERATURE SETTING DOWN to activate
the Cold valve as with previous models.
Pressing each button once will activate the valve. To de-activate valve press the same button
again. This is also good to use when installing machines as it takes the shock out of the fittings
and seals and allows checking for leaks on the inlet hoses, both machine end and tap or super-tub
end.
Caution: Do not leave the machine unattended when either or both valves are operating

hi there,
try the following, it may help:

Some washing machines allow hot water to enter only during certain cycles. Others intermittently
allow hot and cold to enter, to temper the temperature of the water. Consult your owner's manual
if you are unsure about whether the machine is acting abnormally.

If you're sure the machine isn't working the way it used to--or should--try these tests:

* Is the hot water turned on? If not, turn it on.

* Is the washer getting cold water but no hot water? If so, check to see if the control panel
settings are correct.

Aeg 72630 update will not rinse during rinse cycle

If the drain lines were plugged, there may have been enough pressure on the pump to fault out. Make sure the sewer line is completely open, as well as the lines at the pump.
