Have you tried changing the needle?
is the needle in backwards?
is the needle inserted all the way into the needle holder?
clean under needle plate & in the bobbin area for lint or loose thread
did you hit something with the needle?

SOURCE: Bobbin thread getting caught

Check your Instruction manual - if you have taken the bobbin case apart to clean it, the shuttle must be reinserted with the little tab pressing against the piece you mention. It is under page 45 - "Caring for your machine" in my book. I missed it the first time I cleaned and oild mine.

SOURCE: I can't raise the bobbin thread. The needle raises before the bobbin thread can 'catch'

readjust the hook to just grab the thread loop as the needle raises it will take a few tries to get the exact setting for the hook (maybe you will see a mark on the hook shaft to show you where the hook's set screw was located before it slipped)

SOURCE: bobbin thread won't catch with needle thread

check that the needle is in the right way round i.e. with cut out on the needle facing into the machine. if this is fine then check that as the needle comes back up from the lowest point that it goes to, that the point on the bobbin case passes just above the hole in the needle, i.e. in the middle of the cut out.(if not it needs re timing) if threaded a small loop should appear at this point for the bottom bobbin to catch if not slacken the top thread and try again.

SOURCE: Singer 4623 bobbin thread won't catch

Here's one, have my 3rd singer (the only thing Simple was me for buying it)

The upper thread just goes around the pin that the bobbin sits around.

The vendor was gracious in exchanigng twice, by the way,
machine #1 sewed for 92 days, singer's warranty is 90 days, & only for parts,
they generally say it's a timimg issue, (all labor, no parts, )
& oh,
there's a deductible
I guess the solution is don't buy a singer
they used to be very reputable
but, chose mass production

Model 466. Why doesn't it pick up bobbin thread?

This means the rotary hook is not catching the top thread and looping it around the bobbin.

Be sure the needle is not bent and top thread is properly threaded. Be sure needle is properly oriented and seated in the needle bar.

Be sure you have bobbin properly wound, inserted, and threaded per machine instructions.

Download your owners manual from the Singer website at...

Try cleaning hook and race area if still having trouble.

If it was working fine and it recently broke a needle and/or jammed, the timing may have slipped.

Model 9117. Why won't it sew?

Remove all the thread. Raise the presser foot BEFORE threading the upper thread so it will seat properly in the tension disk. Confirm with the manual that the needle is inserted facing the correct way and verify that everything is threaded correctly. Somewhere I read to use only Singer needles in Singer machine--don't know if that's true, but...

Also appears that this machine takes a special bobbin:

There could be a knick or burr somewhere that is catching the thread. You can test it by lightly rubbing an old pair of pantyhose on areas (under the needle plate) and see if it catches anywhere. If the knick is not bad, you can try to smooth it with a fine emery board. Otherwise, could require a replacement part.

If you can, observe the stitching mechanism while you hand-rotate the handwheel and see if you can tell where the thread is hanging up. Hopefully you will be able to see where the machine is failing to operate.

My Singer Stylist Model 416, bobbin doesn't work at all. It will not catch when I try to thread it, it doesn't move. What can I do?

If you are certain it's threaded properly, then the bobbin case is probably either worn or damaged and it might need to be replaced. Take the bobbin case out of the machine and check for signs of wear, scratching or dull spots that may indicate damage. Be sure it is properly seated in the machine too, as being even slightly off kilter will stop it working. I have also read that sometimes a bobbin case may settle a bit in its seat and that makes the hook too low for the thread to catch on it and I honestly don't know if there is a fix for that. You'd need a good repair guy, ideally one certified by Singer.

Why does my thread keep bunching up?

That is called "thread nesting," and several things can cause it. The upper thread enters the bobbin area during sewing, catches the bobbin thread, and as the needle goes up, pulls the stitch tight. Something is catching the upper thread as it goes around. The most common reasons are the bobbin or bobbin case (or both) is improperly inserted; the bobbin is warped (roll it down a flat surface--if it wobbles, it's warped), either the case or the bobbin is not seated evenly, there is a rough spot on the bobbin case that is catching the thread, or your bobbin is loosely/badly wound. You need to rule out the possibilities step by step until you find the cause. First, review your threading procedures from start to finish, using your user's manual. Then, without fabric, turn the hand wheel by hand (ALWAYS towards you) to see if you can see it start to catch. The top thread should rotate smoothly in the bobbin area. You should be able to pin-point the cause that way.

Simplicity sewing machine SL 9240 was giving to me and when I try to sew the needle keeping hitting the bobbin holderr.

On the right side you have two knobs to make adjustments. The lower knob will move the needle left or right so it won't hit the bobbin holder.

Bobbin thread bunching and top thread breaking

After double checking your threading path, changing your needle, ensuring you have good quality thread, and cleaning under the needle plate and in the bobbin race area, if none of that helps your problem, check the hook that goes around the bobbin for a burr that could be catching and not releasing the upper thread on its trip around the bobbin. Remove the hook from the race if you can, and run your fingernail from the base to the tip of the hook on all sides, watching for it to catch on something. If it does not, let me know and I'll dig deeper. If it does, use a very fine emery board or cloth and just barely touch it to the hook, stroking from the base to the tip very very gently. That should knock the burr off, reassemble and test.

I tried servicing the bobbin area of my Singer 7442. I followed the instructions in the manual carefully. The straight stitch is working but all other stitches are not catching in the bobbin.

Couple of things to check is the needle new? if not change it,
Pull the bobbin thread out and bobbin case, then put the machine on a zig zag stitch, turn the hand wheel slowly and see if the hook (pointy thing that catches the thread) is just above the eye on the needle (when the swing is all the way to right) if it is not then you need to take your machine in for service.

Good luck and please rate my answer.

Bobbin thread won't catch

I've just had this exact problem with my model 2037. The problem, according to 3 shops I've taken mine to, is that the shuttle hook (the metal piece that the bobbin sits in) is broken and needs replaced. Problem is, the piece is next to impossible to find.
