TV is not powering up and red light keeps flashing

Hello, This television (Toshiba 55H70 55 in. Cinema Series) has worked great and pictue is fine when it will power up. Occasionally when we try to turn it on, there is no response other than a flashing red light sensor beside the actual power button. I have tried unplugging to reset and there are three different outcomes to this, they are listed below: 1. I will hear the sound of the tv kicking on and then red light will start flashing, this is without touching the power, only plugging it in. Pushing the power button in has no effect. 2. The light is off and remains off. I then push in the button to power on set and I will hear the sound of the tv kicking on but nothing happens, light starts flashing again. 3. I can turn it on and it starts up fine. (YEAH!) Is this a short in or perhaps a bad powersupply problem? How much will repairs generally cost? Could it be something else? Thank you, Cyndy Davenport

red light flashing and nothing showing up on the screen

I have a 52 inch Threatreview, Toshiba Rear Projection TV and all of a sudden I cannot get it to turn on. Each time I point the remote toward the TV I cannot get that familiar clicking on sound instead i get red blinking light where the green power light used to be whenever i turned on the television. Now I keep getting this blinking red light. Even if I unplug the TV cord from the surge protector and plug it in another outlet, it it does the same thing, Can you explain or diagnose the problem with my TV IT is approximately 9 years or so old.

Red power light on front of tv blinks.

Picture is escued. (Sound is OK)

Most of the time problem is corrected by unplugging and plugging back in.

Sometimes there is a loud knocking sound which lasts a few seconds.

I have been told that the picture problem is cause by bulb in th back of the TV that is easily replaced.

    Your thoughts please.

  • gut3joyce Jul 14, 2008

Mine is doing the same thing. I have it plugged into a power strip, turning off the strip is the only way i can turn it back on. It works for a little bit then turns off again, red light blinking, won't do anything with the remote or button on the front.

occasionally the tv will not go on. power button fires up but then turns to flashing red. Once tv is on it will remain on until turned off. sometimes it

will start back up, sometimes not??? Help!

  • doubleube504 Dec 30, 2008

I have had mine for about 8 years and have had no problems and picture is still great. Every once in a while when we are watching tv, it will just turn off and the power light flashes red. The only way to get it working again is to unplug it and plug it back in, then it works fine. The power button does nothing at this point. Frustrating.

I am having the exact same problem. What did you do to fix the problem? What is the STR##### regulator IC in the power supply. We fixed the convergence chips and the resistors looked fine. Not brown like they are bad.

I had the same red blinking led problem on my Toshiba Theaterview tv. I resolved by:
- Unplugging the tv.
- Press several times (3 or 4 times) the tv Power button.
- Plug the tv back in and press the Power button once to turn the tv on....tv worked!!!

I've had the problem before and tried unplugging the tv for a couple of days and that had also worked, but I this recent solution seems to be faster.
Good luck!

Cyndy, Yes this problem you have is most likly caused by the STR##### regulator IC in the power supply. You probably also have a capacitor or two that may need replacement and the best way to find those would be with an ESR type capacitor checker.. This is not a type of repair that a consumer with no TV experience should fool with. Please seek out a pro to assist you with this repair. Good Luck

I have the same problem on the same TV - nothing shown on screen, blinking red LED (sometimes slow, sometimes fast), clicking noise of a transformer. I got the TV free thinking I could fix it. It looks like the previous owner has replaced some resistors. Can anyone double check the pic and tell me if the mod is correct or not? PCB is marked PB9582 B Thanks

I have had this problem for about two years. The only time the flashing red light phenomenon occurs on my set is when someone (usually my father or my mother in law) turn the television power off and try to turn it back on again within a few minutes of shutting it off. Although I have not found a fix for this, you can avoid the problem by not turning the power on shortly after turning it off. I have never had a problem turning the power back on 15 minutes after I have turned it off, sometimes the time period is shorter, but if you don't wait long enough you run the risk of repeatedly turning the power on and off until the damn light stops blinking. It is aggravating but in seven years of owning this set I have had no other problems with it.

We just had the same problem, our TV was 6 years old. Repairman put a new IC in and it blew again (or shorted out) He told us that it would be easier to just replace the board, but that Toshiba board is no longer available. I hope we got correct information.

Have someone replace the stk ics and resolder the area around the ics tosh has a bulletin for resoldering this pcb altho the ics should be replaced due to age if you keep wathcing it it will eventually blow internal fuses then you will be the proud owner of a 55 inch piece of black particle board with a blinking red led on the front

Another solution is to check the fuses in the TV, 2 yrs ago our Toshiba 52" did the flashing red light thing, I simply opened the back, checked the fuses, changed out the bad one, and bam....no issues ever since :)

Okay everybody - hold the phone. Here is how I managed to 'fix' this same problem on my Toshiba tube TV (2005 model) in November 2014. I turned the TV off using the regular on/off button on the TV, NOT using the remote. It evidently put the TV in "standby" mode (I.E. THE FLASHING RED LIGHT...). Here is how to fix it ---- unplug the TV, unplug the cable, take the TV and put it somewhere out of sight, so you will not be tempted to throw it away, and WAIT 24 HOURS. (Seriously, I'm not kidding...). Plug it back in, hook up the cable, and turn it on using the on set power button. Wa-laaa! It works, amazingly enough. Evidently this 'standby' mode times out at 24 hours. It worked for me. TRY THIS - what else have you got to lose, but your TV. And from now on, turn your set off using the REMOTE CONTROL, as if you use the actual on-set power button, it can put the TV in standby mode. Anyway, it worked for me. Maybe I just got lucky, but this has happened to be twice before I figured out to wait the 24 hours to turn it back on and it worked. Good Luck P.S. Don't ever buy another Toshiba TV.......

My toshiba TP50H15 color tv comes on then off and the light blink

The flashing power light on those Toshibas is usually caused by capacitors on the power board having failed solder connections. I have fixed them before by removing the power board and resoldering the capacitors. If you have experience with soldering and electronics it is an easy repair. Most shops will recommend replacing the entire board since their labor to repair it would probably cost more. Toshiba put out a service bulletin on this issue which a good technician should be aware of. (If memory serves the capacitors are C109 and C110.  Since your TV still turns on you probably haven't blown fuse F860 which often blows when these capacitors act up.)
If you would like further help with this please post a comment back here.

Watching dvd, great pictue and all of a sudden black out

7 Blinks is the failure of the SC/SU/SD PCB's (1 2 or 3 depending on how lucky/unlucky) you are.

Panasonic have a great warranty usually. Give them a ring, it has failed.

The flashing LED is the fault code.
