What troubleshooting steps can I try if my TI-83 Plus family or TI-84 Plus family graphing calculator displays RAM cleared?

If a TI-83 Plus family or TI-84 Plus family graphing calculator consistently displays the RAM cleared message, the following steps will help in troubleshooting the problem. • Try a new set of batteries (including the backup battery).
After replacing the batteries, adjust the contrast by pressing and releasing the [2nd] key followed by pressing and releasing the [up arrow]; repeat as necessary. To adjust or lighten the display, press [2nd] [down arrow].
• Remove one of the AAA batteries. With one of the batteries removed, press and hold the [CLEAR] key. While holding [CLEAR], reinsert the AAA battery and then turn the calculator on. The calculator should display the message "RAM Cleared". Release the [CLEAR] key and then press it one more time to remove the message.
• Remove all of the batteries including the round lithium battery for 5 minutes. After the 5 minute period, reinsert all of the batteries and turn the calculator on. Adjust the contrast if necessary.
• Remove one of the AAA batteries. Press and hold the [DEL] key. While holding [DEL], reinsert the AAA battery and then turn the calculator on. The calculator should display "Waiting...Please install calculator software now". From here, follow the instructions listed for Correcting the Error Message Waiting...Please Install Calculator Software Now on the TI-83 Plus Family or TI-84 Plus Family Calculator.
If the suggestions listed above do not alleviate the problem, please contact TI-Cares for information regarding service.

This is kinda a weird situation. Because it's usually the other way around. Your ram will clear if your calculator is frozen. So take out all 5 batteries from the back. Even the back up battery. Then reset it again. 2nd then + then 7 then 1 Then 2. Good luck.

  • Patrick Oct 25, 2008

okay try this go and hit 2nd then + and go to the second one MEM mgmt/del. And see how much ram you have free. And how much ARC you have free. If that RAM number is small then that could be the whole problem and i can walk you through how to delete some unimportant things.

yea i'm sorry that is enough to run everything.... i'm sorry. I don't know what to tell you

Ti-nspire with 84 keypad problems

It seems to me that you get the loading bar when you switch keypads. I just switched keypads, and when I reinserted the TI84 Plus keypad back again I found my last TI84 Plus screen contents still displayed.
As to the RAM cleared message, it probably is related to the batteries being depleted.
To verify battery charge level, you may use TI connect.

Ram cleared, how to reset ram memory

If the calculator says RAM Cleared, then the RAM is cleared and there is no need for you to reset it. again.
If the calcularor says RAM Cleared everytime you turn calculator on, it may be due to a depleted backup battery.

My TI-84 Plus calculator won't work. It won't switch off by itself. When the batteries are reinserted, it says that all RAM has been cleared. When i press the 'ON' button again, the screen clears. but...

The Ram cleared message is normal after you change batteries. When you see this message you press the CLEAR button to erase it. You do not press the ON button again because the calculator is already ON. If you want to turn calculator OFF you press [2nd][ON] (OFF).

On certain calculators, pressing the ON button when calculator is already ON is interpreted as INTERRUPT the current command.

RAM CLEARED?

Hello,
The most likely reason is that the backup battery is drained. Change the backup battery. When you get the Ram Cleared message, just press [CLEAR] to erase the message and start using the calculator.
Hope it helps.

When turned on, my TI-84 Plus says that the RAM is cleared. I pressed on again but you can't do anything after that.

Hello,
If it is always saying RAM Cleared when you turn it on, it may be due to a depleted backup battery. Once you change it, you will not get the message again.
Anyway, you are not supposed to press ON again when calculator is turned on. Just press [CLEAR] to erase the message and have access tho the main calculator screen.
Good luck.

TI-84 Calc is FROZEN

I'd try hooking it to the computer using ti connect explorer and see if deleting the programs there would help. I had a calculator that did the same thing and never did fix it. But if your memory can be delete and reinstalled it might work.
