I have a 2.5 yr old Maytag SAV5701AWW wash machine that recently started to make a loud howling noise during the spin cycle. The belt burned off recently (on the motor pulley was where the burning occurred) during a spin cycle. I replaced the belt and also spun the drum and agitator to see if something was 'locked up'. Both seemed to move freely. After changing the belt, the machine still makes a loud howling noise on spin cycle (can not hear a person talk 5 feet from you!!!). Some other observations: the drum seems to stop abruptly when the spin cycle stops, the drum/motor/pump assembly move back and forth a great deal when the spin cycle begins.... Any thoughts? Thanks!!!
Travioso, there was two service flashes out on this model concerning the seal and bearing which means they had an issue with this washer. The howling noise you are hearing is the bearing and will need the new designed triple seal and bearing kit. This should be covered under your warranty, I believe it is 5 years. The numbers for the service flashes are TDL-0048A-B. Call Maytag and inquire about these service flashes, these should be covered. Catriver.

yep, I have the same problem with mine. I'll calling. thanks for the info!
This might not be the right ID #. Mine is from 1998.
agitator doesn't move and wash basin doesn't spin. Motor does make noise, but belt doesn't move. Belt can not move freely
machine makes a horrible noise while agitatiing and spinning, wife cant take it anymore, just had a part replaced that allows it to change cycles, $233 amazing, $156 in labor for 2 screws!~!
my washing machine will not do a spin cycle. the drum will move freely when not turned on.
Washing machine shut off during the rinse cycle, the augutator was locked up,I changed the setting and it spinned freely. I tried the next day to turn on machine water started to flow then stopped. I can hear the motor but nothing happening a y ideas?
The drum of my warhing machine seems to be loose it makes alot of noise when it goes into full spin and the belt keeps coming off
There was a noise inside the drum at certain times in the spin cycle that proceeded the latest problem
I recently replaced the belt and the belt is not the problem. The smoke has a burning rubber smell to it. Trying to determine if this would be a bearing or the drum seal. There is no excess noise when spinning, so speculating this is the drum seal. Is this most likely?
machine will only agitate during spin cycle?
machine will only agitate during spin cycle
agitator moves but drum won't spin
Does not agitate nor spin and makes loud noise. Black rubber belt at bottom is worn out nad come off the motor or fan
wash machine just recently begun to get loud during the spin cycle.
