Resetting involves holding down the middle button and the TOP of the menu button for approximatly 5 seconds. It will restart the ipod, unless there is a major problem at least.

Want to reset

If the iPod nano doesn't respond, reset it. Press the "Sleep/Wake" button and the "Volume Down" button simultaneously and hold them until the screen gets dark, and then wait a few more seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen, followed by the home screen.

How to Fix a Frozen IPod Nano

iPod Nanos will sometimes freeze up, sticking on one screen or not even turning on at all. If your nano is locking up, there are a few things you can try to get it working again.

1. Turn off the hold button. First of all, make sure that that wasn't the problem--don't worry, we've all done dumber stuff.

2. Cold boot. Assuming that wasn't the problem, flick the hold button on and off a few times, and then make sure it's off. Hold down the Menu button and the middle button button for about 15 seconds; this should reset the iPod nano, which may fix the issue. Make sure that the iPod nano is fully charged before attempting this.

3. Recharge. If that didn't work at all, try plugging the iPod nano into the USB port of a computer, using the adapter that came with it. Be sure to plug directly into the computer, and not through a USB hub. The USB needs to provide adequate power for the iPod nano to function, and it may be unable to do so through a hub. The iPod nano should be recognized by the computer; once it is, you simply need to safely disconnect it in iTunes, and it should be functional. If it doesn't show up on the computer at all, give it about 20 minutes, leaving the iPod nano connected to the computer, as the nano may be under-charged, which requires a few minutes to re-charge. If it's still not working, try plugging the iPod nano into a different computer.

4. Try again. If the Menu + Middle Button fix seemed to work, but just cycled the nano back to one of its starting screens (including the "do not disconnect" or the "loading Apple logo" screen), try that fix again. If it still doesn't work, try to charge it for a while, and then try it once more.

My 8gb apple ipod nano chromatic isn't working! you can faintly see the little "connected" sign with the plug, but it's really dark. i can hear when i put my earphones in, but that's it. my computer...

Slide the hold switch to hold then off, hold then off. Then press the play / pause menu button at the same time and hold until the Apple lego appears. This usually takes 5 to 10 seconds. You may have to repeat this a few times. It worked for my ipod. If this does not work try going to the Apple website. There will be a lot of reading to help with your problem but it will be worth it.

I plugged in my i pod and came back a hour later and the screen was black and was frozen and none of the buttons would work

you will need to reset your ipod this will not delete songs. 1 Toggle the Hold switch on and off (slide it to HOLD and then back again).
2 Press and hold Menu and the Center button for at least 6 seconds, until the
Apple logo appears.
If iPod nano won’t turn on or respond
â Make sure the Hold switch isn’t set to HOLD.
â The iPod nano battery might need to be recharged. Connect iPod nano to your
computer or to an Apple USB Power Adapter and let the battery recharge. Look for
the lightning bolt icon on the iPod nano screen to verify that iPod nano is receiving
a charge.
To charge the battery, connect iPod nano to a USB 2.0 port on your computer.

Screen gone dark

It is natural to ipod the screen will be dark if has no power unless the LCD of your iPod is defected even it has a power its remain dark that’s the symptom of defected LCD screen. I hope your problem is a power failure only. Make sue your iPod is fully charged and then toggle the hold switch on and off. Then reset your iPod nano; Toggle the Hold switch on and off,(Slide it to Hold then it off again). Then press and Hold the Menu and Center (select0 buttons simultaneously until the apple logo appears ,about 6 to 10 seconds .You may need to repeat this step . If you having difficulty resetting your iPod set it on a flat surface .Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel,and not near the center. Then If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep. Try your iPod nano with a different USB port on your computer, not a USB port on your keyboard or hub. iPod will stop charging if the computer, or portable computer, it's connected to enters standby, hibernation, or sleep mode. To charge your iPod, connect it directly to a computer's USB port and make sure standby, hibernation, or sleep mode is turned off. If using a portable computer, make sure it is plugged in to a power source and that the lid or display is open. If the lid is closed the computer may go into either standby, sleep, or hibernation mode and iPod will not charge properly. If you have an Apple iPod USB power adapter you'll be able to charge your iPod without leaving your computer powered on. If all procedure above for power to on is not working then its better to replaced the battery with anew one so its works normal again.

Hope it may help you;
Regards;

My 4gb Nano Ipod is frozen. Itunes does not recognize my Ipod when it is plugged into the computer.

Toggle your hold button off and on then hold the circle in the middle AND the menu button (at the same time) for about 6 seconds....until the apple sign appears on the screen. Then let go, your Ipod should boot up a few seconds thereafter. I found this solution at the Apple Ipod troubleshooting website. GOD BLESS!!!!

Nano does not work-blank

sounds like it needs to be recharged. plug it into the wall charger or your computer and do not disconnect until it tells you that the charge is complete... this takes time and disconnect it from the computer by dismounting it before disconnecting so not to cause problems
