Racks falling down

The racks in my 75503 fall to the bottom of the oven when you bake.
It's like the dimensions of the oven walls or the racks have changed. The racks are about 1/4" too short to fit properly. Has anybody seen this problem before. It's a first for me

Add 3/4 inch office supply binder clips to each side of the rack with the rounded handle of the clips pointing to the middle. I added two to each side. The clip in the front is tilted up slightly to make sliding the rack easier, however the racks don't easily slide in and out but heavy pans can now be placed on the rack and they will hold. I've even placed a cast iron dutch oven on the rack without a problem. Depending on your warp, you may have to experiment how many clips to use and where on the rack to position them. It's worked for me for almost a year.

Hi, it’s still working for me. Another person suggested welding small pieces on the side of rack which certainly is a more elegant and permanent solution. But I move the racks around and found it easier to add or adjust clips in or out as needed since my oven walls are more warped in the middle and less on the bottom. Good luck!

Sears has no solution other than call repair and have a costly replacement of oven cavatiy, with no guarantee it will not happen again. Turn power off to stove, a precaution. Unscrew top, mine is ceramic top, pull forward and lift, slide to side. Remember wires are still attached to burners. Unscrew back and side. Looking at stove, I did left side. Open bottom oven door, remember the way this comes out is the way to put it back on, Lift side panel up and twist it towards you, you may have to jiggle or shake it. (The panel slides in at bottom in front of leg.) you may want to use a mask at this point. This exposes the insulation covering the oven measure a piece of 2x4 or 2x3 pieces of wood, I used 2lb rubber mallet, if you don't have use a 2 lbs heavy hammer. Put the wood vertical across all the rack cuts on outside of oven side, using light to medium force hit wood in center and move forward a few inches, repeat til you get to front and repeat going to rear. Test racks for fit. I had to do it once more applying slightly more force and racks fit prefect and snug. ( I slipped and hit oven edge and bent it in don't fret I put wood on inside of oven and moved it flush from inside to out, so be careful). Reassembly the stoves. And yes Kenmore no longer stands behind and is now producing substandard products. My opinion. Good luck.

We made a few messes doing heavy holiday dinners and my wife had a pie
tip on her today. So after reading a lot of online complaints on this issue I was going to replace the oven liner. (I am technical, like to save a buck and do it myself.) So guess what? The oven liner part is discontinued on Sears Part Direct!
So back to the blogs when I found your post. It worked like a champ for me and just cost time. I would suggest cutting a 2x4 the width of the liner opening at the door. Position it to prevent the liner from bending in too far when pounding on the liner from the outside. Bonus.....it is quite satisfying pounding on this thing that dumped a couple turkeys and beef roasts over the years. ;) Thanks again!

Thanks for your post Mike! You were so right: Sears repairman had almost nothing to offer (he did supply me with the part number for the liner so I could do an internet search for it to see if I could purchase one.) My quick search yielded nothing. My brother and I opened the oven up like you suggested, pounded it with the board and mallet. We also inserted a small metal bracket as a brace to prevent this from happening again. *Fingers crossed*
Our oven is just over 7 years old and I was mighty upset that Kenmore and Sears are like "whatever"

Thanks for posting this Mike! I followed your steps and it worked great for straightening the walls on our ~20 year old Frigidaire Gallery. We're about 1-2 years away from doing a full kitchen reno (including new appliances) and I really didn't want to buy another stove to get us through until the reno. Again, thanks!

This is a 100% fix.

  1. Go to your local home improvement store and buy a 1/4" diameter mild steel rod in a length to allow about 1 foot per shelf you need to fix. It will be under $5.
  2. Take it and the racks to someone who can wire weld - a muffler shop, high school shop, or friend. They can cut the rod to fit the end of the rack, then weld it from the bottom to extend the rack by 1/4".
  3. Once put back in the oven, you won't hardly notice it. Repeat on the other side of the rack if it needs to be wider.

This is a great idea thanks. I found a local welder who supplied and attached these rods on our 3 racks for around $50. Considering that Frigidaire wanted $80 for each oversize rack to cure our problem this was a cheap effective cure. I must say though after this and another problem with Frigidair I will not purchase another cooker from them future!

Same problem with the Kenmore Elite. How can this very, very dangerous problem fly below the radar so long? This is not some minor cosmetic issue. This issue with the racks is very dangerous. Any fix is just a case of "rigging" it to work. Not safe - not acceptable. Need this to get into mainstream public eye. Also need consumer advocacy help here!

Wrapped 1/16 inch uncoated wire rope around each side of each rack. It took two wrappings in opposite directions, but the racks now sit firmly into the sides of the oven.

I was worried that welding would be expensive, so I just took some aluminum foil and rolled it into a long thick wire shape. I then coiled it around the rack on either side to extend the width of the rack. I considered picking up some copper wire and doing the same thing, but I had the aluminum foil handy.

The liner needs to be replaced. I contacted Sears and surprisingly found out that my Kenmore Elite 790.46603501 model only cost $180.20 to replace the liner! No idea what the labor will run since I am 2 years out of warranty. I love this oven and a compatible model would run me well over $1500 I think I will go with replacing the liner. I won't use the self-cleaning function once it is replace, just in case this was the original cause.

I have the same model Kenmore oven with the same problem. Repair guy came today. They no longer work for Sears but a company called A&E. The liner will cost $216.29 and the labor is $523.80 for a total of $791.90 including tax. This is unacceptable, why should the liner warp unless it was a defect. It looks like I am not alone.

The racks all fall out if even the slightest weight is on them, very scary keep waiting to burn myself badly

Hello Kathy Manson - Unfortunately, based on the symptoms you are describing, the oven liner would need to be replaced. The oven liner cannot be adjusted or shimmed to resolve this issue. If I was in your position, I personally recommend consulting an experiencing service technician to assist with the repairs.

Hi,
Two racks never bake as evenly as one unless you use the fan inside the oven if you have one...The fan will also shorten the baking times...
The other thing that I would check is to make sure that the lower element in your oven is not blown and you are heating with the top element only...

Turn off the power to the oven.
Remove the racks.
Remove the BAKE element screws and carefully pull the element out.
Remove the wires from the element, being careful not to let the wires fall back into the oven cavity.
Use a volt meter set for continuity and touch the meter leads to the element terminals.

Electrolux Icon Oven won't self clean - "Remove Racks" displayed

I was getting the remove rack error until I finally figured out what it wanted me to remove. When you say you removed the rack supports, do you mean just the sliding parts or the whole side metal rack support? At first I thought they were bolted in, but I read somewhere that they come out, too. Upon further investigation, I found the rack supports just slide into the side walls at 4 points. I had to use a little force to pull them out, but they came out and my oven is self-cleaning as I write this. I just thought I would share in case you or others haven't figured it out yet. Trouble baking

Sounds like it's running too hot. Check temps. May have a stuck relay on board. Run oven and check to see if bake element is cycling off when it reaches temps. It should stop glowing within
15 minutes from start. If it doesn't you need a relay board most likely.

Concealed oven

consealed bake means that the bake element on the bottom had a metal plate above it to make it easier to clean and to allow you to use the lower racks without burning the bottom of your food. To use, you want to make sure that the oven temperature that you set has been reached before putting in your food to be cooked. You also should put the racks one notch lower than you normally would. If you do this, you should have no problems with your food cooking unevenly.
