I just bought a 1997 polaris storm it originally had an 800 engine in it but the guy i bought it from put a 600 xlt engine in it ...now the sled starts and runs good but my clutch is making a squeling noise everytime i slow down or when i first take off and its wearing down my belt quickly how do i fix this?? please help thank you.
Remove the clutch cover then the spider (special tool required) there are some washers to add between the spider and engine side of clutch shaft to set pulley width. But before you do that when engine is off does belt have side clearance? If the answer is yes, you may only need a new clutch spring as they loose tension with time and idle speed may be engaging clutch

The problem was contaminated pump/fuel. Disassembled carbs and pump, inspected and cleaned, engine runs like new. Thank you

Lighting coil is bad. Take off flywheel and replace the lighting coil. Should solve your problem.
SOURCE: 1997 Polaris XLT Triple. Do I really need to pull
I have 1995 and a 1997 XLT. i have rebuilt the recoil on the 95 and all it takes is the few bolts to take off the cover and take the pipe off. if the 97 is any thing like my dads 94, you may have to pull the engine up a bit, the bottom left bolt cant fully be backed out with out hitting the side of the belly pan retainer, all it takes to pull the motor up is one nut in the back of the motor mount, and one bolt off the front, and it will tip up enough
