Error code E31 scanning with Canon MP495

When I try to scan it flashes E31. I'm unable to find any manuals for this aside from the setup guide which doesn't cover scanning for the first time or troubleshooting. Help! :)

OK, just looked at printer settings and it has this machine down twice...once as just a printer, which is online (wireless), and the other has it listed as printer/scanner but says to connect with a cable...that it's offline.
Does this mean the scanner is not wireless for some reason? It doesn't make sense to me, since it's not really trying to scan, it just gives me the error code...

  • Tamara Mitchell Dec 28, 2011

Fixed. I had to connect my WIRELESS P/S/C to the computer and now it scans just fine. But seriously, it's supposed to be wireless...why should I have to connect it to get it to do one of it's 3 basic functions.
False advertising. Will never buy Canon again. When I redecorate my Canon was going to be across the room, which is why I paid extra.

Can anyone out there scan with this machine wirelessly?

Have the same problem. I have not tried to hook the printer up to the laptop yet but I will try that now. Thank you for the help.

the only way i can get it to scan wirelessly is by using the "add-on" thats on my desk top. If you click on the "show main screen" button and go to "use scanner" then hit auto scan it will scan wirelessly. i have not tried to use the auto scan button on the add-on. hope this helps.

Make sure you use the CD rom enclosed with your printer to access the ability to scan via internet. If you don't have it, you'll need to go to the Canon website and download ALL those files, including the drivers. I just had to do that after getting a new computer and not being able to find the CD that came with my printer.

After a few times of frustration, and a few reboots of both the computer AND the printer, it's now working.

Can't print or scan with canon mp270

I have checked that your printer is compatible with OS. 10.6, so I wonder if you need to update your driver? Even if you do it looks like not everything works normally. Go to
http://www.canon.co.uk/Support/System/Search.aspx?TcmUri=tcm:14-831469&SearchType=3
where you can download your driver and see the notes.

Ip address check 2 05 4051

It's a funny thing but all I did was press the physical SCAN button on the MP495 - instead of trying to do it from a program in the computer. It scanned the document immediately and launched MP Navigator.

I had tried most of the solutions here first, with no success.

I was using wireless router and receive exactly the same error code as above.
SOLUTION: Turn-off printer/scanner; reset or turn-off the wireless router power and then turn-on again. Turn-on the scanner. Start scanning.

I have a Canon Pixmax MP240 and am receiving an error code E31 when trying to scan a picture.

uninstall the printer drivers from control panel add/remove program or programs and features. goto canon.com and download the drivers for your printer and version of windwos. reboot the computer and then run the file you downloaded. this will reinstall the software and should solve your issue

Unable to send scanned document

What error code are you getting? Try to scan again and let it fail. Press system monitor, scan, log. Look for jobs with Result of NG. Highlight one and press details. At the top, look for Result: NG (####). It will display an error number there. What is that error number?

751 cannot connect to server
7xx cannot connect ...
8xx could connect, but error...
801 bad user/pw or firewall
802 user/permissions
899 unknown if successful, may be normal

Check additional functions, system settings, network settings, email/ifax settings. Check SMTP server IP and authentication / encryption.

Ignore POP or recieve options as they are for IFAX.
