Tv2 remote not working tv1 must be on

My remote for tv2 will not operate satellite unless tv1 is on or is unplugged from the wall and the box. This happened when I got a new westinghouse tv1 a couple months back and through troubleshooting we got it to work if tv1 was hooked up with RCA cables from the box yet unplugged from wall cable wire. Box is Dish322.

There are two rows on the back and the RCA cables are plugged into the top row. This new problem occurred when we shut the power to the bedroom where tv1 and the box is. It was working fine prior to that.

  • Anonymous Dec 22, 2011

Screwing it back in didn't work.

  • Anonymous Dec 22, 2011

Since it worked when you unscrewed the antenna and doesn't work with the antenna attached, I need to send you a new antenna. If you would email me your account information so I can look into sending a new antenna. [email protected]. Thanks.

I believe it is some sort of interference between the remote signals for the tv and the box. I found information online suggesting I put an attenuator between the antenna and the box and that seems to be working for now.

It sounds like the RCA cable is plugged into TV 2 ports on the back of the receiver.
Depending upon your receiver, towards the center on the back of the receiver, you have 3 rows of colored (2 - Red, White, and Yellow; 1 - Green, Blue, Red). The RCA for TV 1 should go in the middle row. Please let me know if you have further problems. Thanks.

Is your TV 2 remote a 5.0? What position is the antenna on the receiver? The 322 doesn't have the ability to change from dual mode into single mode causing problems with the TV 2 remote. When you say you shut off your power, could you elaborate more on that? Thank.s

The remote is a 4.4. The antenna has not been moved, and is pointed in a 12 o'clock position. This began when I added a westinghouse tv to tv1 a few months back. Dish's solution was to send a new remote but that didn't solve the problem. My dad is a tv repairman and through troubleshooting with him we got it to work by disconnecting the cable from the wall and only using RCA cables from the receiver. This worked fine until we shut the power to the room the receiver is in over the weekend (we were doing some electrical work). When we turned the power back on and the receiver reset, the remote for tv2 no longer controls the receiver, but still turns tv2 on and off. Thanks for your help. It's the strangest thing, and really frustrating that no one at Dish can help.

Do you still have the old remote? On the new remote, what color is the tab on the bottom of the remote? Do you remember the steps the CS had you perform to address the new remote to the receiver? Please let me know. Thanks.

  • Anonymous Dec 17, 2011

Blue #2 on both remotes. We reprogrammed the remote address the first time and the second time. Went into sys info w tv1 remote. and then pressed and held SAT mode on tv2 remote until all mode lights lit. Entered the address (which was 8), pressed # and then record. Verified the tv2 address was in fact 8 in sys info.

  • Anonymous Dec 17, 2011

That is the correct procedure. Is 8 the same address as before or what it was changed to? Try this for me. Turn your TV 2 on, see what channel you are on, take the remote to your receiver, remove the antenna, and place the remote up to the port where you just removed the antenna, press the up or down button to change channels, then see if the channel indeed changed on TV 2. Please let me know. Thanks.

  • Anonymous Dec 18, 2011

Yes Ray! Removing the antenna and putting the tv2 remote up to the port does change the channels on tv2. What does this mean? I assume something with the westinghouse tv is causing this?

  • Anonymous Dec 20, 2011

Try screwing the antenna back onto the antenna port and let me know if it is working now. Thanks.

Dish remote 2 changes channels on both tvs and dish remote 1 changes channels on both tvs

Is the receiver in dual mode? Go to the receiver, open the door, and hit the mode key. If both TVs are still showing the same thing, then the issue is not the mode.

Go to TV 2 (the one without the receiver) and make sure the TV is tuned to channel 60 or 73. If it is still showing the same thing, go to TV1 (the one with the receiver) and hit Menu, system setup, Installation, modulation (menu 6-1-5). make sure the modulation for tv2 matches which channel you put your tv2 on.

Still showing the same thing? check the back of the receiver, the RCA cables (red/white/yellow) are plugged into the TV1 ports not the TV2 ports.

Showing different things but the remote still changes channels on both tvs? Go to TV1, hit menu twice, near the bottom there are two boxes each with a number. This is the address for each remote (tv1 and tv2). On the TV2 remote hold sat until it stays lit, choose a number different than on the screen, touch pound (#), the sat light blinks three times, hit record, the number on the screen should change to match the one you typed in.

Dstv remote not working on any blue dials? Two tv's in separate rooms, one pvr decoder. Only the red dial works on both tv's & both remotes are working & both tvs responding properly.

Is this a newly installed system? If both tv's are responding to the same remote setting (red in case), it means both tv's are set to the same channel. The tv that is connected to the decoder directly (via AV cables, I presume) is supposed to respond to if the remote is set to red. In order for the second tv to respond when the remote is set to blue, you need to tune the second tv until you find the picture of tv2 (the decoder transmits both tv1 and tv2 on the RF/coaxial output and it seems that your remote tv is tuned to tv1 instead of tv2).

Remote (2) works to tun the TV on and off.... But nothing is working in the SAT mode. Remote (1) is working fine.

Hi, Mary with Dish Network Customer Service. I am sorry you are having a problem with your TV2 remote. It sounds like it needs to be readdressed to the Dish receiver box. Take the remote to TV1, using TV1 remote, press the "Menu" button twice. TV screen should show "System Info", towards the bottom of the screen it will say "Primary Remote Address" and "Secondary Remote Address". Take TV2 remote, press and release the "SAT" button, on the top left corner of remote. The press the "Record" button 3 times. The number in the white box, next to "Secondary Remote Address" should have changed, if not unplug receiver from power for 10 seconds and then follow the instructions again. This should resolve your issue but if you are still having a problem, you may need to contact Tech Support directly. I hope this helps.

Hello! Dan Busa with Dish Netywork here intermittent signal loss like that is usually caused by some sort of glitch a hard reset ( unplugging it for ten seconds ) will usually resolve this. If your signal strength is at or above 80 that should be fine, but keep in mind you need good signal strength on both the 119 and 110 satellites ideally you should be at 70 .

Setting up remote 2

Ok lets assume you have the correct remote for the TV2 on a 322, you will need to take this remote to the TV1 location . Turn TV1 on and with the TV1 remote press menu-menu. You are now at the sytem info screen. Towards the bottom third of the screen you will see some wording that reads primary remote address and secondary remote address. Now with the TV2 remote press and hold the SAT button until all buttons across the top light up and release. The SAT button will be flashing. Now key in a two digit number between 1-17 that is unique to this remote only. Press the pound sign and the SAT button will flash three times. Now press the record button and the number you chose should now appear next to the TV2 icon. Are you good to go? If so exit out of all screens on TV1 and try thr TV2 remote at its location. You should be able to control the satellite now. If you can't ensure that the antenna on the back of the receiver is present and there are no obstructions in front of it. If you still are having issues - like you have to be at a certain point in the room- the remote antenna may need to be moved from the back of the receiver to the TV2 location Thanks for using Fix Ya.

Hi,my brand new UHF remote wont operate the #2 tv??

Go to the tv 1 location with your TV2 remote. Turn TV1 on and using TV1's remote press menu-menu. You will be at the System Info Screen. Take TV2 REMOTE and press and hold the SAT button on the top left until all buttons on the top light up. Release the SAT button. Now key in a two digit number from 1to 16 and press the # key. The SAT button will flash three times. Now press the record button until the remote address for TV2 changes to the number you chose. When accomplished exit out of the screen with th TV1 remote and you should now be able to control TV 2. As a precaution ensure the remote antenna is on the back of the receiver. If you still have difficulty it may be required to move the remote antenna closer to TV2. I hope this answers your question. Thanks for using Fix Ya and let me know if I can of further assistance.

Remote Sensor Problem

Given that both remotes work with TV2, more likely the IR sensor on TV1 is defective.
The problem could also be in the microprocessor itself as well.
