Well, glue won't work so you are looking at a new screen in the range of $75-100 plus installation. Is the notebook worth it or should you buy a new one?

As per Acer repair policy, cracked screen is not covered under standard warranty. They will charge you $199 inorder to replace the screen. However, if know any local retailer or tech you can consult with them.
you do not need to replace the converter- As long as your screen is just cracked then the converter is fine. Converter may be bad if your screen is really dim or just blank.
you can try pulling the screen apart and re-seating the ribbon cable, but the lcd might be broken, or one of the controller lcd chips might either be cracked or broken. Trying to reseat the lcd ribbon cable might help, but if there is a visible crack in the screen- you will need a new screen.
