It can be the Lamp Ballast as well as the Color Wheel.

SOURCE: WILL NOT POWER ON, STANDBY, LED, TIMER LIGHTS ARE BLINKING.

Check the capacitors on the power supply first. If any have domed tops or signs of leakage, replace them. I had two go bad on mine. Call electronics parts supply stores first as these are not your average capacitors.

The color wheel needs replacing. Thats causing the whining and it will also make the lamp light blink.

I have a HL-P6163W, hooked to dish network hd

Fire the TV Tech! Your problem is the adjustment to the color wheel timing. To correct this: With TV OFF -> on remote, press MUTE, 1, 8, 2, POWER. The TV will come up in service mode: ( Left / Right arrow keys for item selection, Up / Down to change values, Menu to return to previous menu, Power to exit Service Mode)

Enter the submenu of item 1. DDP1011. Now, adjust item 4. INDEX DELAY to correct the "clay facing" problem you are having . Default value is 47.

You should have a "problem" image paused to check you work if possible. I hope this was of some assistance, best wishes.

A loud humming noise, as soon as I turn on tv, but picture and sound quality is good, could be a fan but which one Thank's Guenter

It could be a fan but most of the time it is the color wheel in the light engine. Samsung has a reputation for bad color wheels. Can be tricky to change and some had a circuit modification for new color wheel designs. Have a repair shop check it out. Should not be too expensive.

Samsung HL-R6768W started making squeal noise from rear of TV. At same time lost picture and will not come back on. Sound is ok and you can hear light trying to turn on. Can fan motor not working correctly...

Look at the fan and verify its comming from the fan and not the power supply unit, you can clean the fan or replace it, but yes the fan would be likly the problem. Make sure you double check the power supply unit and clean if its needed,

HL-R6768W not turning on. High pitch spin sound. Bad color wheel?

The high-pitched whine is definitely the color wheel.  The early color wheels had problems and many had to be replaced.  As part of the turn-on process, the TV checks for light and then checks for color wheel sync.  If the bearings are wearing out/dried out, it could cause issues with getting the proper color wheel sync, causing the set to not pass the turn on sequence.
Check Sears or partstore.com for a color wheel.  I like sears for experimental replacements since they allow easy returns.
BTW, mine is an early 61".  My color wheel was replaced when I had to replace my Light Engine.  My in-laws 50" was an early one and theirs went out within 2 years.

Samsung DLP HL-S5087W 56" Confused...

Mine did that when the color wheel didn't spin up...just give it a whack where you installed the light & the wheel should spin up. I had to replace my color wheel as the bearing was shot & was buzzing all the time. The light won't come on if the wheel doesn't spin up first.
