Half-life exponential problem. Can't get the same answer as example

I am trying to follow an example in our book and use my EL-531W to solve it. My problem is I am getting different numbers than the book is.
Equation:
e = exponential
10 4 = 10 to the fourth power

8.2 x 10 4 MBa = Noe-(0.693/8days)(4days)

8.2 x 10 4 MBa = Noe(0.7071)
How do I enter e-(0.693/8days)(4days) into the calculator to get e(0.7071)?
No one in class can get the correct anser on this calculator, but we can on other scientific calculators, so I'm pretty sure we are entering it incorrectly into the Sharp.

Thanks!

Hello,
Here is how you enter it.
[+/-]0.693/8x4[2ndF][e^x][=] result is 0.7071588193 or as you wrote 0.7071
some calculators show an error message if you enter the [+/-] (the negative of a number before the number itself).
In that case enter 0.693 then press [+/-]. the calculator should put a small - sign before the 0.
You can try
0.693[+/-][x]4[/]8[2ndF][e^x][=]

Hope it clarifies things.

What is the exponential form of 9.9.9.4.4?

for this I like to use logarithms to solve for N
reason 4 this is logarithms are the reverse of a exponential

log's have specific rules that exp's don't have to follow hence it makes it easier to solve for answers
using the formula logb(mn) = n · logb(m) will allow you to solve for N then just reverse the answer (do that in your head!!) and whhoollaaa! its an exponential !!!! neetooo

heres the log rules I was telling you about ! they apply to all log's uses

1) Multiplication inside the log can be turned into addition outside the log, and vice versa.

2) Division inside the log can be turned into subtraction outside the log, and vice versa.

3) An exponent on everything inside a log can be moved out front as a multiplier, and vice versa.

How to use the exp key

I think it is case of mistaken identity. There is a function called the power function. The general form of it is a*(b)^x or a times (b) to the power of x. a is just a constant factor (not equal to 0) and b is the so-called base ( also different from zero). Personnally I call this function the power function, but you find it is often called the exponential function.
The exponential function e^x is similar to the power function. The main difference is that its base is a certain irrational number called e (=2.718281828...).
What you want to do, as far as I can guess is to calculate 2000*(1+0.12)^20.
Simplify your life and set 1+0.12 as 1.12, and type in 2000 [*]1.12^20=
1.12^20=9.646293093. Multiplied by 2000, this gives you a final result 19 292.58
To enter the the power use the key marked as [X^y], [Y^x] or [^]

No solution, but I have the exact same problem with a Sharp EL-531W calculator. Doesn't matter whether mode is degrees, radians, etc., and resetting with button in back has no effect.

Whats the exponential form of 135

Hello,
Frankly, I do not understand what you want.
I will try to guess.

Calculate the exponential of 135
Use the [2ndF][LN] key to access the exponential e^x
[2ndF][e^x] 135 [=] result is 4.263389948 x 10^(58)
or 4.263389948E 58

Represent 135 in scientific notation
135 =1.35 x10^2 or 1.35 E2

Represent 135 in Engineering Notation
135=135E0
If none of the above answers your question, maybe you should state clearly what you want, I am no seer.

Hope it helps.

How do i display very small exponents on the sharp 531w calculator... for example: the screen simply shows 0.0000000 for the answer 7.4*10^-14 ...i can't get answers correctly on a test or working a...

Hello,
You have several number display formats : Normal1, Normal2, Sci, ENG
If a number is too small or too large and the calculator cannot display it with the necessary number of digits (to satisfy your of decimal digits) the calculator uses Scientific notation
7.4E-14 =7.4x10^(-14)
If you were to use the norma1 or normal2 format you will have
.0000000000000074 but your calculator displays only the first 10 places

You should learn to use and interpret results in scientific format.

Hope it helps

How do I calculate exponential functions?

The y^x button is right next to the x^2 button. It is labled with an x raised to a square box (which I will write as x^box). Thus, if you enter (for example)

2 x^box 5 = 32
