I have an hussmann case m-fn-12g u case that is set up for dual temp and has one defrost heater on front of the evaporator coil and the back of the coil always ice-up should I add another defrost heater to the back side of the coil to stop this problem. The defrost times are 45 min at four times a day

Sounds like you may have a restriction or blockage, may also be low on freon

Maybe but there is also a thermister in the defrost system that might be bad. The thermister is a small, white, barrell shape and is as big around as a pencil, It has 2 wires going in it and is attached to the top of the coils in the freezer.

the partial frost pattern is an indication of low refrigerant, restriction or bad compressor. if the unit is under 5 years old this repair will probably be under warranty thru GE. if out of warranty then you are looking in most cases between 200-500 dollars for repair. good luck Thanx peyton

TAKE AND DISCONNECT THE POWER TO TH UNIT AND ON THE VERY BACK THERE IS A CONTROL BOARD THE IS UNDERNEITH A WHITE PLASTIC COVER THAT YOU WILL HAVE TO REMOVE THEN DISCONNECT AND RECONNECT THE WIRES TO THE CONTROL BOARD AND SEE IF THAT DOESTHE TRICK.

Every 8 to 10 hours for around 20 minutes the defrost timer (or in most newer models the electronic adaptive defrost control) will turn the defrost heater on to melt the built up ice. The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge.The fan in the freezer blows air through it. Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

Evaporator ice up and unit has a temp at 31F not going down in singles digits

Melt the iced up evaporator with a hairdryer for a temp. fix. The auto defrost system isn't working. I can't find diagrams of yours but here is basically how it works.

With the temp control set to less then 1, temp on the bottom of refrgerator is 25-30 degrees and on the top shelf it is 45-50. With it freezing on the bottom I get a block of ice and the drain freezes up....

Power to refrig. Front displays show temp for freezer (0) and refrig.(37). Fan running by coils. Neither will cool. Also the compressor is hot but no humming or other noise

The temperature is rising. In freeze temp set to 0. It is 34...Manual says no need for routine condenser cleaning, tried to vacuum it, but no improvement overnight in temp. Doors are properly closed.

Below the evaporator fan is the evaporator coils. Remove the back cover in the freezer to observe the frost pattern. Light frost everywhere(NORMAL) or a partial pattern of ice(LOW ON FREON) or nothing(LOW FREON OR COMPRESSOR PROBLEM).If it's heavy ice build up...

My GE PTS25LHSARBB has developed a problem with holding temps

have you checked the evaporator coil for icing up,it sounds like after you unplug it it defrosts and the evaporator deices,this could be caused by dirty evaporator and condenser coils or warm air getting around door seals condensing on the evaporator coils and freezing and blocking cold air flow,if this is the case,then check defrost heater circuit for proper operation
