My DVD player won't play my DVD's

One day it would play DVD's and the next it wouldn't. I tried to a lense cleaning DVD and I tried different DVD's, but it won't play them anymore. I called Tech support and all they could tell me was to make sure the disk was clean and that it was the correct region. Is there any way I can fix this on my own?

My DVD player says "This type of DVD can not be played. Please insert a different disc."

What can be done with this? HELP PLEASE! This TV is for the kids and they all bring their DVD's not VHS's

I can't get any DVDs to play. When I put one in, it says "Reading DIsc" but won't proceed. I don't think the disc is actually spinning inside. I suppose I will need to have it opened up and looked at.

It's the laser i just manually replaced my laser on my hi fi system, it first stop reading burnt cds but will play original cd's and dvd's. Next the dvd went won't play dvd burnt or original. Then it started a few days later to have problems reading original cd's. So i was curious what was the problem, could it be a build up of heat in the system damaged a microchip, or is it the laser gone. Not an old system. So i took out a laser from a magnasonic dvd player which reads both cd's and dvd's and stuck it into my isymphony system. After some alignments, and reconnecting all cables, i was surprised to see it play dvd's and cd's again all formats. So i guess as long as you get a replacement laser that is capable of reading the same type of disk that the original can, then you should be good. I mixed a magnasonic dvd player laser with a isymphony system and all went well. No skipping, read's tracks quick no delay. So i suggest if you have a little expensive system like mine $400.00+. Go ahead and replace the laser, if you have a cheap $60.00- dvd player replace the dvd player if you got the money, replacing a laser ain't fun and takes alot of patients. If your working with a hifi system i suggest you be very careful especially with one that is capible of pushing though alot of wattage if you accidentally touch a capacitor or transistor's terminals then you got a good chance of injuring your self. So for the user above, just buy a cheap 10$ dvd player or get one of those xbox 360 replacement laser's from ebay which sell of $6.99 it will do the same job since the microchip on the system is what holds all the codec's for the formats that it will read. Just make sure you get one that reads both dvd and cd's. Most likly a xbox 360 replacement laser will read both cd's and dvd's. Try it, just be careful and make sure you align everything properly. It ain't that hard. Like the user with a tv/vcr/dvd system best bet is to replace the laser instead of the whole system. Going to cost you with shipping from ebay 15$ for a laser. CAREFUL of you work with a tv keep it powered on and unplug it from the wall with out pushing the off button. Then wait for an hour to let all charges discarge. Cause if you was to accidentally touch a wrong part inside a tv, you'd be thrown back far. Becareful, and do everything at your own risk.

Take Care

Not unless you know your way around a cd or dvd player. I found that in alot of problems are the pick laser assys and most are not worth the cost of the replacement. Just an example on a 29.95 sony discman The laser pickup cost 45 Bucks.+ labor for install and alighnment.. now in the earlyer units the laser had a small control on them and when they got weak you could increase the laser power. or they drive train for the pickup as the mechanical gears or motor woukld get full of dirt. You could always take it apart as long as your carefull and dont care if you ruin it or not BUT I do not recommend it as there are super fine wires and ribbon cables inside these puppies that even a sneeze while holding one while open could rip a ribbon cable. The only thing you can really do with a cd or dvd player is to clean them with a lens cleaner unless you have some know how on alighnment of there circiuts. You could always get an inexpensive external dvd player and hook it up to the set.

I took the Initial tv/dvd apart. The dvd player is removable and could be replaced if you could ever find a replacement. I took the dvd player apart and temporarily fixed it. I noticed the drive was not spinning. For kicks I pulled the laser head from full-in to full-out and put in a dvd. It played!!! But only for a few minutes, then it froze. Head frozen in full-in position again. I repeated this with a different dvd, same result. My conclusion is that the dvd laser head mechinism jams in the full-in position. Either that or it doesn't slide freely causing the data stream to stop, thus freezing the screen. This all started when I loaded a data-dvd by mistake. Could that have jammed the laser head and started the problem? Just a guess. Final answer -- hook up an external dvd player. Anyone know where to buy a replacement internal dvd player?

SOURCE: Problem with the dve player

You may have to check the options for the player. Some DVD players cannot play formats other than regular DVDs. You can check the options to see if it can be put in a different mode from the normal one, such as progressive scan, which can help it to read DVDs better in some ways. You can also set it up to accept more types than just DVDs, but also DVD-Rs and VCDs. I cannot tell you, without fiddling around with it, whether you will need to take it in to a shop, but that is an option. Once you see about adjusting some of the settings, see if it won't play a DVD.

SOURCE: DVD player cannot read DVD disc.

Have you tried other DVD's in this unit and they work? If so it might be just an incompatibility issue with that DVD in your TV.

Won`t play dvd`s.try a cleaning disc no luck!possible dvd diode gone?any help please.Nigel...

Hi Nigel,
There are three reasons for discs not playing.
First, if the set has been lying for some time, the loading belt becomes lose and the loading is not complete. The result is no disc play.
Second, there is dust on the lense. Again the result is no disc play.
Third, the lense unit has gone bad or weak. Here also the result is no disc play.

Disk won't load

First make power reset.
  • Switch off your DVD, remove power card from wall out-let. Then connect again and power-up.
  • Use CD/DVD lense cleaner to clean the lense.
  • Then try out.
Thanks

Dvd player won't play disc

There are a few different cleaning kits out there these days for DVD or CD players. I would recommend one that actually has fibers on it so the it brushes the lense of the DVD player. These cleaning kits can be found just about anywhere. Have you tried to clean it with anything?

It sounds like the problem is with the DVD's you've been playing. I've gotten those problems before, but not on every DVD. How many different ones did you try playing?
