The GE GSL22JFPH refrigerator door gets lower over time. When it gets low enough the light stays on when the door closes. There is a vertical bolt along the hinge line. Push down the hinged plastic "hinge cover" under the door right on the hinge line and you can get a wrench on the bolt to raise the door. I have to do this every 6 months/

I have the same exact model (Maytag MTB2191A) fridge and I've encountered the same problem in which the light is on while the door is closed.

When the door's closed, you can actually see the light on, through whatever bad seal is going on there - plus it also means that the light switch isn't being pushed as it should with the door closed.

The issue is the closing door is not aligned with light off switch.

After year of putting up with this issue, I found a solution today.
It's very simple. I unscrewed the light fixture a bit and now, viola, the door aligns with the off switch. The light turns off when I close the door. what a pain and what a simple fix.

This is an old post, however, the problem is not in the door switch. If you check the wiring diagram the switch goes back to the board to a relay. The relay is sticking. The solution is changing the board.

Samsung refrigerators are unlike most, in that there is no mechanical door switch. There is rather a magnet in the upper edge of the door that creates a contact with the frame of the refrigerator, much like the magnetic contacts on a window burglar alarm.  Check to seei f the magnet possibly fell out.

Also, the light will not go out until the door is almost completely closed.

It's difficult to tell if this is happening but you should be able to see the light go off when the door is a fraction of an inch from closing. You can also feel the bulb (be careful!) when you first open the refrigerator in the morning-it will be hot if it has stayed on. A light bulb that stays on will warm the refrigerator's interior, cutting down on efficiency. Test the light switch button that the door closes against-when you push it in all of the way, the light should go off. If the light stays on even when the door is closed, the light switch is defective and must be replaced. If you are adept at simple repairs, this is a job that you may be able to handle yourself-be sure to unplug the refrigerator before working on it. Otherwise, call an appliance repairperson.

My LG refrigerator is doing the same thing but the switches are working because the digital control center LEDs go off when the door switches are in the closed position and the fan comes on

Just how exactly would you know?

A friend and I have the same exact model (Maytag MTB2191A) fridge and we've both encountered the same problems with them. This light on thing is one of them. I don't believe it has anything to do with the light switch and here's why: When the door's closed, you can actually see the light on, through whatever bad seal is going on there - plus it also means that the light switch isn't being pushed as it should with the door closed. I found that if I tried to sort of push the door upward, the seal with close and I didn't see any light. But you can just stand there and watch it unseal itself. Both of us have had problems with food that's way too cold and food that's ok, depending on where it is. This HAS to be why. Even on the lowest setting, things away from the bulb freeze, while things closer to the bulb do not. Not the greatest thing.

It is possible that the door is not aligned properly. If it hangs a bit low on one side, when closed it will not press up against the turn-off lever.

How do I know the door switch is bad

If light stays on when fully closed, door switch needs replacement, easily removed. Short term fix, disconnect the switch and tape the two spades together. Warning! Dryer will run even with door open.

The interior lights remain on after the doors are closed. (They're always hot.) I've unscrewed the bulbs and the fridge is cold again as normal, but now I've got no light. Any ideas?

I have a fridge that does the same thing. I go the no light route personally. With my refrigerator, it is a poor design and the part of the door that is supposed to make contact with the switch is way off. There is no way to fix my situation. You may be in the same boat, or it may be a faulty switch. Open the door and see if you can locate the light switch with the bulb in. see if you can press the button with your finger and see if the light goes off. If it works then trace back to the part of the door that is supposed to make contact with this switch. See if it is even getting close to touching the switch. There may be some adjustments you can make, or maybe there isn't.

Wont start are do nothing wont come on but light inside stay on all the time even when door close

Sounds like your door switch needs to be replaced. When the door is closed it is supposed to shut off power to your light, and send a signal to the timer that the dryer is ready to start. If your light is on with the door shut, then it won't start. Pretty simple replacement that you should be able to do yourself. Good Luck, Appliance Specialists
