Excessive wobble My Maytag Neptune Model FAV6800AWW recently started to wobble so badly when loaded it stops spinning. However, when I run the spin cycle unloaded, it completes the cycle fine.

  • services777 Sep 06, 2008

I've tried that. I've tried various load sizes and types and nothing works. Seems that any weight in the washer causes it to wobble.

If there's a loud thumping noise during the spin cycle, the load of clothes has probably gotten unbalanced. Open the lid, redistribute the clothes in the washer, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary.

We have had a neptune since 2005, it has wobbled since day one. When the drum is empty and you spin it you can see it spin in an elipse. Now it is burning into the rubber diaphram ( $150 shipping) at the front opening and smoking up the clothes. I just wasted $180 getting someone to look at it and replacing the water pump that was also broken, a coin had slipped down into it somehow.. Un balanced load has nothing to do with it. I will probably sell it on ebay and cut my losses. My mother bought an LG at the same time and has never had a problem. My model is made by samsung, I was told by the repair man that they are better than the actual Maytag models. They must all be junk.

If you machine is a FAV6800A or FAV9800A don't worry about the last two letters of the model number.

Maytag neptune FAV6800AWW top load washer gets to 32 minutes left and goes no further. It starts to cycle for about 5 seconds and stops for about 35 seconds... over and over and over

Is the machine in Spin Cycle when this is happening? What part of the washer selected cycle does the Cycle Status LED say the machine cycle is in.
If it’s in the Spin Cycle I think you have a clutch issue. Do you take any error codes to the LED console display such as dC or uC?
If you stop the machine in that cycle and do a Spin Only cycle will it complete?
Do you want to DIY the fix? Let me know and I will try to help…..Rich

UC code on may Maytag Neptune Washer FAV6800WW

Continuous Unbalanced Circuit. Improper signal from Tub Displacement Sensor.
Wet Clothes • Very small clothes loads can cause unbalanced loads - add additional towels. • Excessive suds may have been present. • Check Tub Displacement Sensor connection and main harness connector at machine control board. • Check Tub Displacement Sensor for 0 to 3.0 Volts DC output voltage between ground and the board input. Check for 12 Volts DC input voltage between the ground and the board output. Only check for voltage at the Tub Displacement Sensor. Do not perform a continuity check. See Tub Displacement Diagnostics • Excessive motion was detected in spin Run Quick Spin Test with an empty tub to check Tub Displacement Sensor and machine control board. • Check for restricted drain system.

The barrel wobbles so bad it kicks off the machine with error UD

This was my issue several weeks ago, very common problem with the FAV6800AWW.

""I just did a repair on my FAV6800AAW by lubricating the needle bearings in the clutch pulley hub, the tub displacement sensor checked OK per the service manual check. I was getting dc/uc errors in the spin cycle, washer was purchased in 7/05. I have basic mechanical skills and used a socket wrench to remove clutch pulley, just follow the service manual removal steps to remove the clutch pulley. Pull the plastic cover off the clutch pulley and inspect the spring, clean/lube needle bearings and the clutch hub coupler that drives spinner shaft. I used WD40 I may need to re-lube down the road with a good light grease. It took a few tries for me to get the clutch pulley to stay on after re-install and power up, getting the clutch pulley seated properly is the trick. I did not remove the washer tub for this fix, I believe I saw a posting where someone did. I just leaned the washer back to get a better reach angle, it is a tight work area. I did not want to junk 4 yr old $1k machine with out trying a fix. If you want to work on this model get the service manual, I found a link on this site, good luck""
