Toshiba SR C8102 (SRC8102-TA) CD-RW Burner Logo
Anonymous Posted on Aug 08, 2011

I have an old Gateway with XP Pro with a Toshiba SR-C8102 CD-R/RW drive. It will read cds just fine, but will not write to either a cd-r or cd-rw. I just reformatted the hd and the driver was reloaded and in the drive is marked as record. When I try to copy to a cd-r it gives an error to insert a cd. When I try to a cd-rw, it says it writes the files and ejects the cd, but there's not files on it. Thanks!

If you reformatted your hard drive you would have loaded the operating system again and have to set the computer up again
Click start control panel administrive tools, computer management, device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question mark ? right click you will have options to update driver, roll back driver,or select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem if you cant see your disk drive in windows explorer
Close all open programs

Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

SYSTEM

CurrentControlSet

Control

Class

{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

Upper Filters

Lower Filters

Upper Filters.bak

Lower Filters.bak

If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer

Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone. or
you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd then plug them back this should activate the found new hardware wizard or

you might have to uninstall then restart your computer then reinstall your DVD/CD then reinstall the driver for this device
if your computer came with a motherboard disk the drivers could be on it
click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll down cd dvdrom drives if you see a yellow question or exclamation mark?! or a red x right click you will need to update the driver or
select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver
hope this helps

how old is this cd/rw? how many hrs has it worked and what sort of inviroment dust free?
the lens might be dirty on cd/rw you could use a liquid type lens cleaner just place a couple of drops on the top of a cd/dvd then play you could use a blank cd if this fails to fix the problem it's already gone bad there is no harm in trying If you take a little risk can solve . follow the instruction: Don't panic its very simply. 1. When running your pc , open the drawer.> 2. switch off the acpower 3. remove powercable & sata or pata cable 4. remove all the screw from the back side 5. press clip to open the font panel 6. reverse the cd/dvd rw 7. just remove the cover 8. clean the optical lance 9. use a little( not much )oil place on two steel shaft 10.cover all the equipment 11.now you can fit to your pc Ifit does the same problem please change the cd/dvd rw because the lance has defected..

Bios CD-R/RW Toshiba SR-C8002

defective drive or dirty lense can cause this problem. And it could be a problem of mis-adjustment of the head (which will require factory repair).

Im having trouble with my drives it wont read the cd or burn the cd or dvd

Hello there,

If your LG SecurDisc 20x Internal Double-Layer DVD RW/CD-RW Super Multi Drive w/LightScribe does not read disc, burn cds or dvd, then it means there is a problem with the lens of the LG SecurDisc 20x Internal Double-Layer DVD RW/CD-RW Super Multi Drive w/LightScribe.

You will have to replace the LG SecurDisc 20x Internal Double-Layer DVD RW/CD-RW Super Multi Drive w/LightScribe or have the lens replaced.

Be sure not to use the LG SecurDisc 20x Internal Double-Layer DVD RW/CD-RW Super Multi Drive w/LightScribe to watch movies as that weakens the lens easily.

Hope this helped.

Ok i asked before if my drive will burn both dvd and cd. the answer was yes. but when i installed the drive and ran my dvd creator program. it said this drive is dvd read only.

Hi mikey7420 ,

The drive name itself is the clue to know whether it can burn dvds or not.

  • In your case it's a CD-RW (read and write or rewritable) and DVD-ROM (Read only memory and not read and write or rewritable as in the case of CD)
  • Perhaps the one who told you did not understand your question properly , and understood it , in the sense that it can read CDs as well as DVDs , as far as Dvd-ROM drives are concerned many shopkeepers who are especially new working in the shop just make a guess and answer our question which could lead to this misunderstanding or incorrect information being passed on.
  • So the next time you buy a DVD drive which should have a read and write functionality as well , then look up for a CD_RW,DVD-RW drive.
  • Also remember that DVD-RW drive can by default read and write CDs as well , but it's not true for CD drives..
  • So usually a DVD-RW drive can read and write Cds as well as DVDs but a CD-RW drive can either read or read and write a DVD depending on whether it's a DVD-ROM or DVD-RW.
Hope this helps.

Will it read?

Yes, that's what it looks like. Make sure you put this in the right section next time, though.

Probably a codec problem on the notebook. rather than a drive problem. Try a 3rd party media player such as Real Player or Quicktime

DVD-RW drive burns music CDs and DVDs, but not data CDs

Alright. Seems like Windows, for some reason, doesn't think your drive is able to burn things when trying to deal with this kind of disc.

I'll need further information, like if you use another program to burn music CDs, and what other things might have changed the registry settings. I know of a fix that resolves issues with the Windows version of data CD burning, but it only applies to CD-R and CR-RW drives..

CD RW/ DVD RW Drive Will not read and Burned discs or burn to blank discs

I suggest a firmware update from Toshiba. If this does not help then your laser in the drive is no longer capable of this task. Also just thought about it but make sure the media that you are burning to is the same as the drive + or - R's
