Tip & How-To about Refrigerators

What is wrong when your side by side refrig. leaks from inside the freezer

The water is from the melted frost of the defrost cycle. The drain at the bottom of the back wall of the freezer is blocked so instead of the water draining into the pan where it will evaperate,it's pooling on the freezer floor and freezing, in many case when the floor indent is full the water will leak onto the floor.By pulling the refrigerator out from the wall, there will be a tube behind the service panel on the right side when looking at it from the rear, that tube can be removed and cleared, then clear the nozzle it connects to inside the freezer.

I hope this helps you to stop the leak,
Gene

Hello,
I dont know if you have a side by side or the freezer is on top,but thats a fairly common thing and the following is what i already wrote before what to check when it leaks like your experiencing.

FREEZER ON TOP
That water is from the melting frost of the automatic defrost cycle. Their is drain in the freezer behind the back wall under the evaperator coil that is blocked, so instead of defrost water draining it's pooling in the freezer or in some case espically on models with the freezer on the top,the water is leaking from the freezer vents into the fresh food compartment.
The way to clear the drain is remove back plate and remove all ice build up and GENTLY make a small hole in drain through then totally flush w/warm water.
The exact location of drain is under the coil behind back freezer plate in the center

I hope this will hepl you to fix that leak,

There was standing water in the bottom of my Roper refrigerator under the crisper drawers. The drain pan under the fridge was dry. I cleaned up the water and vaccumed under the bottom of the fridge. Where is the water coming from....the freezer? And how do I fix it? thanks

Inside bottom of freezer every few days theres about a 1/8 of an inch of ice. Can you help me. I have cleaned out the freezer several times but cannot find the origin of the water. Thank you

The water is from the defrost cycle thawing the evaporator coil.
The defrost drain line in the freezer is frozen over with ice and the defrost water is not draining.
Turn off the power and remove the rear freezer panel and the freezer bottom panel.
Use a hair dryer to defrost the ice at the drain hole in the center of the drain trough underneath the coil in the back of the freezer.
This will take some time to do because the process will be slow.

Build up of ice in bottom of freezer compartment

During the defrost cycle heaters in the wall of the freezer are turned on to melt the frost build up. This melted frost "water" is supposed to run out a drain in the bottom of the freezer and collect in a pan under the refrigerator/freezer where it will eventually evaporate. If this drain is blocked it will cause a lot of water to collect in the bottom of the freezer and that water will eventually turn back into ice. I recommend defrosting the freezer manually, removing all the ice/water buildup in the bottom, and trying to unplug the drain line to the pan underneath. Also check the seal on the freezer door. If it's not sealing well it could be letting a lot of moisture enter the freezer which would lead to more frost buildup and more water during the defrost cycle.
