I pressed something on the keyboard that muted my computer. How do I get the sound back.

You should open Control Panel > Sound and Audio Devices and at default page uncheck where it says Silence. If this is not the problem, make your question again, stating you've tried this option

This is a setting you may have to change on your computer and not the keyboard. Reboot your machine and enter your BIOS (sometimes called Setup) there is usually text in the corner of your screen when you first turn on your computer that says "Press F2 for setup" If not, google how to get in. Once there, you need to find the setting for F Lock (depending on your computer, it may be called ActionKeys, who knows -- you can google that first) and change that setting. Sometimes you have to enable it and sometime you have to disable it. Either way, the F Lock will be toggled and the F Keys should function normally and you'll have to press the Fn key to get Mute.

when I try to type the star symbol the computer goes to mute state instead, when I again try to type the star symbol the comes out of mute state.I want to change the keyboard shortcut so that I can type the star symbol in word documents as well as web pages.

Sounds like your keyboard drive is not set right. Do you have a special keyboard with programmable functions? Try changing your keyboard driver. Google your keyboard model + drivers and see if one comes up you can download. Then replace current driver and see if that resolves your issue. It's not a laptop is it? If so, that's another matter.
