Washing Machine Problems No Water

Your washing machine will not fill up with water. You have checked the hoses, cleaned the screens, and still no water. Now what is next?



First make sure that you unplug the washer to prevent a shock. Then you will have to get to the valve. For some washer this can be done by an opening in the back panel. And for other you may have to remove the entire top of the washer to access the valve body.

Hopefully you can get there without removing the wiring, so that you can check to see if you are getting power to the valves. Once you can get to the valve body, then carefully get a meter on the connection to the coils, then plug in the washer and start the cycle where the water would normally flow. If you have power at the coil and the water does not flow then you know that the coil is bad or the valve is stuck. There are ways to clean the valves but usually a new valve body will be under $40.00 and it is not worth the mess and the possibility that the valve will soon get stuck again. If you find the problem there, just replace the valve, it is much easier.

If you are getting no power to your valve then you know to look back in the wiring further. You may have a bad switch in the timer. Follow the wires and trace the back to see where the power is stopping at. If you have power going to the timer and no power coming out then you have found your problem there.

Troubleshooting appliances is often just a matter of following the problem back to where it starts. Be patient and be very careful when working with electricity. Always make sure you have the appliance unplugged when you are not actually checking for voltage. Also be aware that some appliances have power on what you would think to be the neutral.
