Tip & How-To about LG Washing Machines

LG Washer WD14030D6 noisy during wash and rinse - fixed!

I had a problem with my LG WD14030D6 which is very noisy when washing and rinsing. The machine got louder over a year or so and so faced with the possibility of a failure I decided to look at the issue. While it sounds like a bearing is failing or similar I noticed that it only happened when the machine was washing and rinsing and was present when the pump was active spraying water across the clothes (wash and rinse cycles), I pulled the machines front panel off and removed the pump assembly at the bottom right of the washer (there are several Youtube videos which show how to do this and remove the flexible pipes and wiring - although not this model but the pump looks the same or close enough).

The pump housing on my machine has 2 pump motors (one on each side of the pump housing). I took a picture of the assembly with wiring attached so I understood the motor orientation before breaking it down.Everyone seems to replace these but I decided to pull them apart and discovered that years of washing had allowed ingress of now dirty and concentrated wash water and detergent to leach in beneath the impeller seal and O-ring seal. I pulled the impeller and rotor assembly out and washed out (with the hose) a lot disgusting gray water almost (it looked like a lithium based grease but it isnt - it should be all clean).

After letting it all dry in the sun till the motor was dry I lubricated the impeller/motor rotor shaft bearing with liberal amounts of CRC or RP7 until it felt reasonably free. I did this to both motors/impeller assemblies. I cleaned out the filter and pump housing although it was all pretty clean anyway. The motors are offset on each side of the pump but it probably doesnt matter too much unless it possibly restricts the mounting, etc.

After reassembly its now as good as new and all but silent just like it was when we first got it back in 2012. So if the spray is working during wash and rinse modes and it pumps out give this a try as the motors are probably fine and save the expense of 2 pump replacement motors.

Sorry I didnt take pics but I really assumed that the pump motors were failing and that I would be replacing them as per all the current Youtube videos indicate. So I decided I had nothing to lose trying this way - and it worked!

Very noisy on spin cycle only

Hi, please describe the type of noise you are hearing. If it is a grinding type noise, it is likely to be the drum bearing.

the washing machine makes a high-pitched squeking

No, not if the noise is only when rinsing, if it makes the noise when spinning generally then possibly but if only noisy when rinsing sounds like a filter blockage on the waste pipe. clean out the filter behind the flap on the bottom of the front panel
