The Need to...

"Should I fix it or replace it?". "Is it worth the repair?"

The "urge" to fix things comes to me in the middle of the night when I ask myself "Why?" If So and So can do it. I like those old TV commercials with the monkey is changing the car oil. (and it's a real monkey to boot!). When the need to fix something hits you, then there is no turning back. You may go to the ends of the earth to accomplish this trivial task! What you don't see is I bought a broken (holes) Kayak for $75 thinking I could fix it. Not knowing anything about "Sea Racing" I got supplies ($100) and started patching it up. But wondered why it was hollow. It leaked on the original owner. Imagine if this happened way out in the Pacific ocean? So, I filled it with foam (another +$50). Then I needed "Tie Downs" for safety equip because I did not want to sink and drown. ($35). Of course a new paint job to show my pride and 4 months of hard work. Finally the sea trials. I can't swim so had my brother (a Kayak person) test it out. Works but real heavy (like 5 times normal?). I try, and well that was the last time.
Lesson? Yeah $300 later and a blue whale stored next to the house. Did I learn something? Fiberglass is heavy and tough to get smooth. Epoxy is more expensive but cleaner look. It's hard balancing on a "Log". Don't build water craft if your not going to use it (in the water)
