Computer problems

Try removing the battery (in case it's shorted), plug in the power adapter and boot to bios (using F2, F10, etc). Be sure there are no USB memory sticks connected, etc. If you are able to boot to bios, great! Then, it's a matter of eliminating the root cause: either battery or hard drive. If you don't boot to bios, then you're most likely facing a hardware problem. It may be as simple as an unplugged cable.
If you can't boot to bios, consider connecting an external monitor to rule out LCD display problems.

One of two things usually.

• Power supply
• Motherboard

Start by unplugging the computer for about 15 seconds then plug it in and try to power up. If that doesn't work...
Purchase a new power supply, I'd recommend newegg.com, they are pretty cheap $15+. Search YouTube on how to replace, it's a fairly simple process.
If it still doesn't power up then you will need to replace the motherboard. There are videos for this on YouTube as well.

Computers don't power on for one of the following reasons.
1. Bad Power Cord
2. Bad Power Supply that the Power Cord Plugs Into on Desktops but on Laptops it's call the Internal DC Power Jack
3. Bad Motherboard.
If you see no lights at all when you plug in the power cord and press the power switch then it's a problem with one of the 3 above.

Sometimes you can have something as simple as static charge buildup that is causing the computer not to start. Here is how to eliminate the static charge problem. Remove the Power Cord from the computer or Laptop. If you have a laptop also remove the Battery from the laptop. Press and hold the Power Button for about 30 seconds. After 30 seconds, plug the power cord back in (don't plug the battery in if it's a laptop) and see if it boots. If it's a laptop and it boots then you can plug the battery back in so that it can start recharging.

Check that the computer is plugged in with power. (is the power bar actually on?, the power cord lpugged into the brick? plugged into the back of the computer? Is teh power port loose/broken?)

Yeah I have a 7000 (well built, still hummin' along), they're pretty sturdy machines. Mines taken a real beating (it actually bent the adapter plug!) so in my view definitely worth fixing. They just don't make them like that anymore. Anyway, it (the connector), probably has come loose from the motherboard and needs re-soldered, or maybe a loose mosfet. A good tech could fix it in a snap so ask around about fair pricing repair shops. Not much of a surprise to you I'm sure but I hope I convinced you to keep the machine. You should see it burn rubber with a Linux Mint OS on it...BLAZING FAST!!! Boots in 22 seconds. Faster than my quad core desktop. Sorry...I get all mushy...lol Good luck!
