Tip & How-To about Adhesives, Coatings & Sealants

How to get superglue off fingers

Through necessity when nothing else was available, I found that acetone / nail polish remover dissolves or at least softens superglue.
After the back of a folded tube burst, hands covered in the stuff, I tried various products.
Hand soap, dishwasher, Handy Andy and Methlylated spirits have little effect.
Laquer thinners also helps a bit, although acetone seems best.
Pour full bottle into glass or metal container - not plastic, which will melt..
When rinsing hands in acetone, rub & scrub to remove stubborn bits still stuck.
Concentrate under fingernails, where skin and nail meet.
After removal, re-bottle actetone for future use.
Lanolin oil in skin will also be removed, so after acetone-bath, wash well with hand soap, rinse, treat skin if required with a moisturizer cream.
If your'e a guy, live with it - it'll give your hands a manly, rugged outdoor look! :)

how do i remove super glue from hand or skin

Super Glue is a cyanoacrylate adhesive. It's impervious to water, but can be dissolved with an organic solvent, such as acetone. Some nail polish removers contain acetone, but be sure to check the label, since many acetone-free products are available and will not work against Super Glue. It's also possible to find pure acetone in stores that sell home supplies or art supplies, because acetone is a useful solvent.

how do i clean superglue from a lens?

The only thing you could possibly try is jewellers rouge or glass polishing paste, If the lens is glass you could try acetone ( nail polish remover) but it will dissolve any plastic so I'd put your chances of success at close to zero with that if there is plastic nearby. The lens is ruined, move on.

My mum decide my sewing machine need oil but instead of oil she accidentally has put superglue instead.. Honest mistake.. Is there any chance I can fix this or do I bin it.. Please will try anything can't afford to buy a new one.. Thanks .

try nail polish remover
Acetone
  • Acetone, found in many nail polish removers, is the most effective way to dissolve super glue because it works on a chemical level to break down the bonds. Simply wipe the glue with a paper towel or cotton swab, removing it layer by layer until it is completely gone. Do not use acetone on plastics, as it will damage it or even eat through it in some cases.
