My Coleman has the same problem. I can crank the top up but it will not hold in place.

I just leave the crank handle in place after raising the top and secure the handle to the bumper with a bungee cord. It's jury rigged but it works great.

there is something in the jets or the piping to the mantels, you my find spider webing there, if you did no cap the port where the tank goes some small friends might have wanted to go camping with you.

Kerosene lanterns require a little more than just lighting the mantles. Go to Coleman's website and find the directions (for free) for KEROSENE lanterns. The generator on the lantern needs to be preheated with alcohol before it will actually light. Make sure lantern is a Kerosene lantern and not a white gas (Coleman fuel) type, there is a difference even though they look similar.

Usual problems are:-
No gas from supply cylinder.
Safety bypass not allowing start up gas flow.
Piezo lighter not sparking.
Another possibility, strange as it mat sound, is the burner being blocked by mud-wasps; difficult to believe, easy to rectify.

There is a fuse located over the heating element in front of the fan. It sits over a small slot above the heating element (probably to cause it to stop working by design). Yes I'm a pessimist. It can be bypassed if it is an emergency by wiring across it. I'm trying to find the replacement fuse now (10amp jet 250v #00575) If you find it please send info to [email protected]. I hope we all get our heaters working, for $250 + dollars you'd expect it to last longer than 1 month.

Replace the battery, Lowes sells the sealed lead battery's for $14.95. Check in the section they sell 'EXIT' signs the battery number you will be looking for is #30128 made by Utilitech. Step 1. Unlock the bulb careful not to pull too hard to prevent snapping off the ground wire for the bulb and unplug the 'black' and the 'red' wire from the battery terminals.Step 2. Locate the 2 screws on the side in the grey area use a P1 Phillips screwdriver a P2 will not fit. Step 3. Carefully pry the 2 half's apart dont pull too hard but just enough to allow the battery to slide out.Repeat the process in reverse to install the new battery.
