My EdgeStar Portable Ice Maker stopped making ice

The ice bucket is probably cracked we have had three that have all done the exact same thing all different name brands. Just order a new ice bucket. Good Luck and my advice is to purchase a extended warranty on these because its not a matter of if it will break its when. Edgestar lasted the longest it lasted 1yr and 7months.

Add Water issue on Edgestar icemaker

This also applies to the Igloo ICE102.

There is a sensor at the water outlet which fills the ice-making trough, which appears to be poorly assembled. The fix is quite easy.

Remove the rear cover by removing six screws located underneath the unit at the back and sides. Keep the ice-maker upright at all times, per user instructions.

Once you have gently pried the back cover off, remove the top cover and hinged lid by removing two screws on each side, located underneath the top rim.

With the top off, you can see the water outlet at the back left side. Above the inlet is the offending sensor, which has a metal prong angled down. This prong must touch the water stream to detect the flow, but is probably too high. You can check this by filling the unit with water and turning it on. Watch the water as it fills the trough. With the tip of a screwdriver, bend the metal tip down so that it touches the water stream. Run the unit for a while to test.

If everything is ok, then reassemble and enjoy!

Thanks to jimbo from Tampa who provided the hint for this fix.

I tried the water sensor

If the water hits the metal water sensor and the unit still lights up add water this means the sensor is spoilt because the sensor if properly functional is supposed to automatically trigger the unit to indicate that the water is sufficient. Once this is triggered the add water light is supposed to automatically go off.
Although having the machine opened up could also be a significant factor on what the machine does try coupling it and trying the water sensor metal prong idea again. If the unit still lights up then the sensor is faulty and if possible should be replaced.
Hope this solution has been helpful?

Mr freeze ice machine parts ice sensorthe unit never starts just shuts off

It believes that the bin is full. You will need to clean the sensors. Should be a couple of eyes under where the ice drops. Or if it has a door, check to make sure the magnet is still in the door.

Air Flow-Life of Equipment

One very important DIY maintenance detail we may forget, or totally ignore, is our air filters, fan, dryer vents, and many other items needing good air flow. Most of us are pretty good about changing air filters in our furnace. The dryer vent can really cause a lot of damage. So not only do we want to clean the obvious lint trap, we need to inspect the hose, and follow it to the outside of the house. Moisture traps the dust inside the pipe and outside vent. Air conditioning/Heat wall units gather a lot of dust as well as window AC units. When you see air intakes, there is usually a filter that will need regular cleaning. Some are reusable you can vacuum, or wash with soap and water. If you do the later, make sure the filter is totally dry before replacing. Every 6 months I move my Fridge away from the wall and vacuum the dust behind where the compressor is so it will run nice and smooth. The big jobs, like cleaning the dryer vent to the outside, is more of a yearly job where as others are monthly, or 3 months. Even your hair dryer has a place where the fan runs, that can get totally clogged. An old toothbrush usually takes care of that. Never put water in anything like a hair dryer, you could damage it. I hope this little tip helps you to remember Air Flow, is so important to all of your items that need a good steady stream of air
