Your Carrier 38CKC042 Air Conditioner has a cooling capacity of 3.5 Tons.

See the performance specs and cooling capacities for all different models of 38 CKC models listed at the Carrier Support page at the following link:

http://www.commercial.carrier.com/wcs/prod_physicaldata/0,2734,CLI1_DIV41_ETI4925_PRD657,00.html

And here is the Online Owner's Manual for that model from the Carrier website:

http://www.docs.hvacpartners.com/idc/groups/public/documents/techlit/OM38-51.pdf

To view the Support Page or the Owner's Manual with Operating Instructions just use your mouse to click on the link, which is the underlined and highlighted text just above. This will open a new web browser page automatically for you and allow you to view the information at the website indicated or the contents of the Owner's Manual.

You may need ADOBE READER installed on your computer to read PDF documents. You can download this free at WWW.ADOBE.COM if necessary. Click on the DOWNLOAD ADOBE READER button on right side of the ADOBE home page when you get there, and then just follow the onscreen instructions to install it.

See the PERFORMANCE AND SIZING CHART at the support page and look beside your model (042) for the corresponding performance details, efficiency rating, dimensions, and weight.

Please comment back here to this page if you have any questions, have difficulty accessing the links, or just require further general assistance and I will respond as soon as I see it.

Thank you very much and good luck.

Carrier electric furnace

what are you talking about. Turn the thermostat back up. It shouldn't matter what you set the thermostat too because it is just a switch that tells the temperature.

Hi- Can not tell if my unites are straight cool / heat or a heat pump.

if you look inside the condenser unit outside, see if you see the big reversing valve,if not it is a straight cool, heat, the heat strip ins in the air handler so you would have to take the side panel off and look for the heat stripe,my the way heat pumps also have a aux.heat stripe just in case it does not get cold enough outside, hope this helps you-mike

Furnace won't turn on

Have you checked to see if the fan motor is getting hot. Sometimes a system will shut down if the fan motor is causing the reset fuse to break the circuit due to heat. If that is the problem just a replacement of the motor will usually fix the problem.

How much will parts and labor cost?

A 3.5-ton Carrier CK....OK the run capacitor will be a 370 volt variety, likely 20 bucks tops....given that this is SINGLE capacitor dedicated to the compressor ONLY. A BIT more if (as is likely) it is a 3-terminal compressor/condenser motor capacitor. I assume you mean 'contactor' and this toy should be another $30+/- $5. (Hopefully the diagnosis you got was correct!) That aside, MOST folks in the residential realm use some sort of "flat-rate" system. Replacing the capacitor is ONE job and the contactor is another. If this is a commercial property (OR if you are aligned with a commercial entity), look for a contractor that will make the repair on a "time and materials" basis. One trip, 2 parts...time element should be MINIMAL. Good luck!
